Is that other one Head of the Class?

It is. Though we have (or may have) found the book, so soon the actual number of stolen books will be decreased by one.

Anyways, Alysina rolled rather well on her haggling, so we shall see if we can't make that offer a bit more enticing (since right now, it's pretty lacklustre when split by five)

Ignore that comment in my post: what I hit the "new reply" button, your post wasn't up. Not the first time![/sblock]

Sirrel can only add that she hopes the money will be enough to keep all of this fine talent interested in the task. She's not really comfortable haggling, since it is a good cause, and she knows how much the crime wave has strained the university budget. The talk of killers stalking the library has a personal resonance for her.

[sblock=OOC]6 The pendulum swings back the other way, and Sirrel is suddenly tongue-tied.[/sblock]

[SBLOCK=OOC]Fortunately, you can't actually hinder with an Aid Another check :D We should be fine with 25, probably--I somehow doubt a grouchy scholar has much of a Diplomacy bonus to oppose with ;)[/SBLOCK]

Hearing the reward is only one fifth what he expected, Rionus tries to suppress a ruefull grin. Guess this'll have to be more in the line of good works than actual profit. Maybe the offer is negotiable to some degree....

"I understand that financial resources are often limited, but will you also be able to help with incidental expenses? Healing potions, scrolls, and such things may prove usefull in the course of the investigation, and the University may have such things on hand, or the ability to purchase them below market price."

[sblock=ooc]Sorry, busy day, my post count is generally a bit higher than this.

While Rio might very well take the job even if no pay was offered at all, he certainly has no intention to 'anti haggle.' He needs to fund his good works somehow!

[SBLOCK=OOC]Much as I thought ;) And looks like I wasn't the only one who thought the reward was 500 GP per capita  Did Rionus notice the bit about Alysina's little brother and being saved from hobgoblin slavers, or was it lost amidst her sea of words? [/SBLOCK]

"And speaking of fascinating lives, could this be Rionus, the brave knight who saved my little brother from hobgoblin slavers? You definitely want to take him too if the group lacks for the strength of arms called for by the good Provost."

"My part in that was small, but I was glad to be of help."

[sblock=ooc]I got involved in the provost/proctor thing and missed that on the first read through. :) We're hiring two positions at work, and I'm handling the second of two recent appeals on top of my normal trial schedule, so I'm a little bit behind. Fortunately, the brief is due no later than Thursday, so one way or the other it'll cease to be an issue then. :) I'll try to keep up better, which should improve my reading comprehension![/sblock]

The Proctor smiles broadly. "You passed the final test. Congratulations, my friends! A hundred gold coins each would indeed be too small a price to pay for this sort of work; you are first applicants to meet all my requirements."

He takes out a folio of papers from his desk and places them between the adventurers and himself. "The first five pages is the contract between yourselves and Morgrave University. The final page is a letter of marque allowing you free travel within Sharn and the borders of Breland while in the service of Morgrave University. Your fee will be five hundred gold coins for the return of the missing book; if you are able to resolve this discreetly then you will find that I am quite capable of rewarding you further.

Altamaic points to the paladin and the gnome. "Lady d'Sivis, I charge you with insuring that Morgrave's interests are met. Rionus, as a fellow man of the cloth - albeit more of a worldly one - I charge you with insuring that the murderer is brought to justice."

"Do the five of you accept?"

Weapon examines the papers. Legal contacts he could attempt to understand, though he was no barrister. But they provided rules, guidelines, structure. All things that he could appreciate.

The Sivis-marked contracts held no surprises: the most important aspect of them seemed to distance Morgrave University from the methods used by the adventurers. The second-most important aspect was that they guaranteed a payment of the agreed-upon monies upon completion of the task.
