I've found that RPGA modules generaly make great one shot adventures, infact that is what they are designed for.
Second choice would be to grab an issue of Dungeon, almost every issue has a nice one-shot-wonder.
Its always killed me that in D&D every race can and will interbreed with every other, without any consideration to a reasonable persons ability to suspend disbelief. A half-elf I can grasp, an Owlbear... I don't think so.
And don't even get me started on the following, the logistics of...
Remember CR is based on real play experience not some crazy-math. Like all creatures, hours and hours of playtesting was put into determining the dragons CR, starting at level 1. It only took groups up to 18th level before party rolled a 20 to defeat its SR and the DM rolled a 1 for the...
Unless the party is moving at a hustle I assume they are always taking 10 on spot, and listen checks. If they want to stop and "look around" I roll for them. I wouldn't allow take a take 20 spot or listen, only because there is no way to tell a critical failure (hearing a false noise) from a...

The server is a free download, the chat client is free (but you need speakers and a mic, or even better a headset). Or if you use it for fragfests or RTSG pick up the Microsoft...
Bulls str and other buffing spells: are pretty much worthless at 1 min per level. the only way they could retain any possible use would be offer bonus type other than "enhancement" or scale them. +2 every 3 levels up to +10 at 15th.
Longstride: no problems here, its a druid/ranger/travel spell...
My players have the same problem, only everything has to be magical. I think it is a flaw with the 3.0/3.5 system that all the players in my campaign want magical armor and magical weapons.
I think WotC needs to take a closer look at balancing to make all items equally useful magical or not.
Another huge advantage of Scortch over Melfs is damage over time. Scortch does everything up front. If you are going to kill an oppenent you do it the first round, not on the 3rd or 4th round after they have been whacking on you the whole time.
When it comes to direct damage, quicker is better...
