    Essentials Paladin (Sentinel) is up

If I'm remembering right, the Essentials Ranger's attack powers are simply Martial, they don't have any Supernatural quality, at least in the fluff. It's their utilities (some of them, at least) that seem to be invocations of primal magic. I would guess that every Paladin power has some sort...

Snarling Wolf Stance = negates melee attacks for an encounter?

Source? I don't have a PHB in front of me.

Snarling Wolf Stance = negates melee attacks for an encounter?

It does not invalidate the triggering attack. The trigger happens when the enemy hits or misses you, not when they attack you. The opportunity attack does not occur until the triggering attack is resolved.

Can non-divine characters wear a holy symbol?

I believe not. Holy symbols are strictly implements, and you need to be able to use one as an implement in order to use it in any way. They have no item slot (neck, head, etc), and thus cannot be "worn" (in a gamist sense) by characters who can't use them as implements.

    Skirmishing Warlord

Strength for bow attacks now, huh? Why don't they just get rid of ability scores all together, since they're pretty much absolutely meaningless outside of class powers. Most classes will have decent NADs thanks to the redundancy, and so basically the only thing they govern is skills. New...

    Kalashtar: am I missing something?

Ah, I haven't played in any campaigns that have reached paragon yet. Also, I just re-read the racial powers, and realized that Dual Mind allows a save even if the power isn't (save ends), so there's a chance that they'll shrug off any dazed or dominated condition. I guess these things together...

    Kalashtar: am I missing something?

I like telepathy, but is it really so good as to justify the crap they get for their other powers? Especially when it's generally regarded that the rules to intimidate someone into surrendering are broken and overpowered? The Kalashtar have some pretty decent feats, but they shouldn't be...

    Kalashtar: am I missing something?

Is it me, or does they hose this race for 4th edition? Kalashtar racial features: +2 Wis, +2 Cha. Fine, but both bonuses affect the same NAD, and they don't have a class ability to mitigate it, like eladrin do. (On a personal note, it means they don't make particularly good Psions, which seems...

    Storm O' Blades

As I read it... The additional attack is in the "Hit" section of the power, so you gain it only when you hit, and each additional attack is dependent on the previous one hitting. The barbarian in your example could make up to 6 TOTAL attacks (or five additional attacks), but the attacks stop as...

Half-Orc Spiked Chain Fighter - anything I'm missing?

It's not really the defensive property that puts double weapons over the edge, I think, it's the fact that they are off hand weapons, and thus give tempests their damage bonuses with large damage dice. Whatever, that debate has been done to death already. I made a very similar character once...

Vertical Distance - High Jump vs Long Jump: Am I missing something?

Be careful, appropriately named teachamath, he's using squares in some places and feet in others. I made the same mistake at first. I think the math is sound.

Half-Orc Spiked Chain Fighter - anything I'm missing?

Just make sure your DM permits double weapons, because the double-weapon/tempest fighter combo is generally considered to be grossly overpowered. I personally don't allow them in my campaign. There's a dragon magazine feat called "Dragging Flail" that lets you slide an enemy one square when...

Idea for a mass combat scenario, seeking advice

The 3rd edition sourcebook, Heroes of Battle, has some great advice for mass battles, and its all encounter design/philosophy, so it applies just as well to 4e. The gist of it is that you run a mass battle like a dungeon: just a series of separate encounters that the PCs have, with their...

    D&D 4E Disarm in 4E

Regicide had it right. Disarming should be a option for when you knock an opponent to 0 hit points, because disarming someone is effectively the same as defeating them. If your friend is a simulationist, that's fine, but he needs to understand that D&D 4e is NOT a simulationist system. 3rd...

    Shaman Spirit Companion Problem?

I don't think conjurations can count as allies for that sort of purpose.
