D&D General How do you use dragons in your game?

This is a straight copy-paste of the "How do you use giants in your game?" thread where I answered. But then I thought I did something similar with dragons, I would share here. For our second or third campaign, which turned into a 3-4 year project and we went from 1st to 15th or 16th level, we...

D&D General How do you use giants in your game?

When I started playing DnD again in 2014 (2015?) with 5e I was fascinated with the giants and the duergar, but I found the lore bland and generic. This is how I changed it for my campaign back then: Long time ago the seven dwarven archmages each ruled one school of magic. There are 8 schools in...

What do you use Chat GPT for?

Recently I use ChatGPT a lot. It saves me bworing and googling for random tables and resources. I don't copy-paste suggestions; I always have to edit them. But getting started is great. "Give me 10 random magic weapons", "Get me 3 random backstory ideas". In one game I participate as a player...

OSR Does "Old School" in OSR only apply to D&D?

For me OSR focuses on 1. Player agency, 2. Exploration, risk and reward, 3. Randomness thus 4. Emergent story-telling and play. They also tend to be rules-light systems so you can join a table, make a character in 10 mins and start playing. By this definition OSR could apply to systems beyond...

D&D General How Often Should a PC Die in D&D 5e?

Considering Revivify is 3rd level a medium level party (level 5+) can take 1 PC death every few sessions with no problems. IRL I have rarely seen PC deaths though. After level 5 you have to beef up the encounters, most PCs are quite powerful.

    D&D General Playstyle vs Mechanics

The key is finding the right balance for the group. Some tables lean heavily into the immersive storytelling aspect, while others embrace the meta-game elements as part of the fun. Neither approach is inherently wrong, it’s all about what makes the experience enjoyable for the players. For...

Positivity: What I'm doing to combat sexism in TTRPGs

Your two points resonate deeply. Using "she" as the default pronoun in your work is a subtle but impactful way to normalize the presence of women in GM roles. Representation matters, and small changes like this can help shift assumptions about who belongs in the hobby. Often, the most...
