Now that i've spent some time looking at the 4e core books I've really decided that it's not the game for me. I have over $1k worth of 3e/3.5e stuff that is mostly backwards compatible with all of my 2e stuff (worth a fortune).
4e basically took a big dump on the last 15+ years of gaming for...
one PC actually had a pretty crappy life . . . Commoner 3 / Expert 2 / Wizard 1
very pesant hero-esque. not the most optimum build for 6th level, but you know what, it's not always about power gaming.
the guy grew up as a stable boy to a noble house in a big city, eventually got skilled over...
Li Shenron -- true, evey sane person living inside D&D "WOULD" prefer to take a regular class . . . however not every person living inside D&D is born to be a hero. The king of craptown wouldn't need to hire adventurers to kill the dragon if he was a PC class in the first place. Where does that...
I didn't hate the NPC classes . . . and i'm sad to see them go. the examples you guys used are statistical outliers that only bad GM's would use.
I'm pretty sure in a "real" D&D world that a 20 year old wizards apprentice (ie. Wizard lvl 1 or whatever) would get his arse handed to him by a guy...
the fundamental shift from 1e/2e/3e to 4e is really in nomenclature.
rangers will not have "spells" as they are defined in 4th edition. that does not mean that they will not have abilities which produce effects that are amazing -- if not technically magical.
look at the basics of D&D -- on any...
thanks all for your replies. my group has a few elves in it, and at least one family of elves has a Home rule [regional] feat which changes the age table for them to the age table of gold elves from the cormanthyr game accessory (2e) . . . and as such, they could still be ADVENTURING 100 years...
First of all, I never played "1e" D&D. [waits for my elders to finish spitting on me] I played 2e and up. I don't love it, but I'm pretty familiar with some of the things there. I don't read all of the books, but I've read a fair share. I read Shadowdale/Tantras/Waterdeep, and understand the ToT...
sorry to all for contributing to the BMI thread hijack
I'm going to miss elves having some versatility (like others have stated: humans can be barbarians or wizards or whatever, but I guess elves can now only be the grungy forest dwellers, and the magic happy elves are a new species now)...
I don't think so . . . BMI isn't 'pretty much always accurate' in my medical opinion. Just take a look at a few professional athletes. Mark Eaton was a bean pole, but his BMI is over 26. Karl Malone, who has 2.3% body fat, is also overweight by the BMI scale, the two time MVP of the NBA has a...
hello all, haven't been keeping up with gaming for the last year or more. . . i know . . . i'm sorry . . .
#1 -- recently (in the last few months) Wotc put out an FR book (playaz guide), iirc it included a PrC called the "Evereskan Tomb Guardian". what are people's thoughts on it? (i don't...
whenever i'm in a rut i take a look at non-traditional ways to play a character class or race.
one of the most interesting classes i think is the Rogue; it is so open ended as opposed to the paladin. most people think rogues are sneaky guys who are interested in stealing. sorry, that's a thief...
INT based is just wrong, IMO. seriously . . . INT is basically learning capacity, and memory. not some incorperal temporal energy which can be tapped and augmented with meditation . . .
if you're a physical character, your primary atribute would be your strength. you can focus your meditative...
