Ritual Spells - do they need to be a separate category?

How broken is this? Let me count the ways: Armor of Agathys Disguise Self Mage Armor Alter Self Invisibility Levitate Mirror Image Pass Without Trace Animate Dead Blink Fly Dimension Door Polymorph Oh, and every Conjure _______ spell and every healing spell in the game. You have to remember...

Is using a familiar in combat to grant advantage a common tactic?

I think so, too. I've noticed that there's a bit of a cultural divide on these forums between players who have experienced playgroups that are mostly cooperative with the DM vs. playgroups that are adversarial with the DM (i.e. can someone trust their players or not, & vice versa). It might...

why paladins (smite) are powerful: action economy efficiency

Moon Druid I can certainly see an argument for, but Wizard? Not so much. They're great, don't get me wrong, but they're also ridiculously fragile compared to the other casting classes and lack healing utility. But on top of that, their most glaring weakness is their "single-resource dependency"...

Is using a familiar in combat to grant advantage a common tactic?

I never said it wasn't. I actually play with a Hawk familiar that uses the Hawk stat-block. I meant if a player wanted to reskin the Owl stat-block into something more flavorful, which doesn't already exist as an available option, but could reasonably be described by the Owl stat-block. Maybe...

Is using a familiar in combat to grant advantage a common tactic?

That's being extremely melodramatic and jumping headlong down the slippery slope.

Is using a familiar in combat to grant advantage a common tactic?

An arms race over a familiar's species designation? I'm sorry, but that's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Just kill the damn Owl. Flyby + Help action leaves it a maximum distance away of 60ft, which is well within range of most attack Cantrips and all non-Hand Crossbow, non-Thrown...

Is using a familiar in combat to grant advantage a common tactic?

What's exploitative about reskinning a familiar to like a different animal? (within reason, of course.)

What's your opinion on "Save or Die" effects?

Unless you are perfectly ready to kill your characters or resurrection is an option, I recommend against using Save-or-Dies, no matter how unlikely they are to proc. Although, that also would depend on the vibe and lethality you're going for in your campaign.

D&D 5E For Your Consideration: D&D (5e) How to Build a Warlock for Combat

First? More like the third one you've posted to these forums, and with terrible advice in them. Now, it's clear that you don't care about the opinions of anyone on this forum and are just using this as an advertising platform, because you've yet to respond to a single critique on any of your...

Is using a familiar in combat to grant advantage a common tactic?

I don't even agree with the person you're objecting to (because I think the fact that Mastermind Rogues have a class feature that grants them a ranged help action, actually does more to prove that that doesn't reflect the intent of the non-Mastermind help action, otherwise, you're invalidating...

why paladins (smite) are powerful: action economy efficiency

I'll be honest, I didn't realize this was a controversial topic, so please don't place whatever baggage you have from previous arguments onto me. I won't have any reference point for it. As for what the PHB says: "a paladin’s oath is a powerful bond. It is a source of pow er that turns a...

why paladins (smite) are powerful: action economy efficiency

Exactly this. And on top of that, Paladins are a killer support class, so even if one is excelling more in the party than everyone else, few people are ever going to resent them for it because they're also helping to keep everyone alive. I can somewhat forgive this though, given that Paladins...

[5e] Rakshasas cannot be counterspelled (mostly)? Is that how you would play it

Counterspell Casting Time: 1 reaction, which you take when you see a creature within 60 feet of you casting a spell Range: 60 feet Given that the range is determined by the location of the caster, I've always interpreted Counterspell as targeting the caster. Not just sight-line, mind you. You...

    Magical adept level 1 spell.

I agree. I'm not saying your perspective isn't valuable. It just isn't common practice or what the game is balanced around. The Wizard class tends to suffer in gold droughts due to the cost of scribing new spells. That, and resurrections are harder, but I would actually consider that a good...
