D&D 5E My nearly comprehensive critique of the August Packet

Even then, it's probably better to have racial abilities be things the character does rather than things the character passively benefits from.

D&D 5E Wild Shape really needs to be a druid-specific spell.

Even then, they could make a single spell with varying effects depending on the slot you prepare it in.

D&D 5E My nearly comprehensive critique of the August Packet

Wait, wait, wait... [/COLOR] They still haven't fixed the math? Does anyone else feel like 5e is getting worse the more the game progresses?

D&D 5E Wild Shape really needs to be a druid-specific spell.

It adds an additional subsystem where none is needed.

D&D 5E Wild Shape really needs to be a druid-specific spell.

It doesn't need to be a separate class feature.

D&D 3E/3.5 Good news, everyone, I found a system that replaces the combat maneuver system in 3e/Pathfinder.

Are you trying to be difficult? You couldn't grapple him if you were using a sword and shield in the first place. Grab dat spiked gauntlet and/or a level in monk.

D&D 3E/3.5 Good news, everyone, I found a system that replaces the combat maneuver system in 3e/Pathfinder.

You swing your sword at the monster, advancing steadily and grabbing at him with your free hand. He ducks under your sword, but you seize him with your free hand. Is that so unbelievable? Regardless, if you don't like that, just say you need to be punching a monster to grab him. Simple...

D&D 3E/3.5 Good news, everyone, I found a system that replaces the combat maneuver system in 3e/Pathfinder.

Because hit points are abstract, and in this scenario, they are choosing whether to defend against the maneuver (taking HP damage) or not and suffering the consequences thereof.

    Intrusion Explained

Sounds like Monte is cribbing into from Dungeon World, only less good.

D&D 3E/3.5 Good news, everyone, I found a system that replaces the combat maneuver system in 3e/Pathfinder.

This is stolen from an OSR blog, I don't remember which one, but credit is due to the author. 1. Attacker says he is going to attempt a maneuver. He then makes a melee attack (or attacks, if he's doing a full attack). 2. On a hit, the defender can choose to suffer the effects of the maneuver...

    What's cooking for 13th Age?

When people talk about 13th Age being OGL, what do they mean, exactly? Is it like 3.5 / Pathfinder where the content is completely open to publication and reproduction?

    Basic D&D, Holmes Edition - a review

I wonder if it is possible that the author had the rules written out but then houseruled a significant portion of them and never changed them.

Levels and skill vs. ability scores.

Something I've noticed in D&D editions is the shift away from levels and your skill gained with them to proficiency based on ability scores. The earliest iterations of D&D didn't really use your ability scores except to give you an XP bonus. By 2e, your ability scores mattered, but they only...

I can't read this, can someone quote relevant sections?

D&D 5E Two suggestions for handling magic items in 5e. (I'm sure these have all been said before but I haven't been keeping track.)

    1. Magic items don't provide a bonus on attack rolls or saving throws. Instead, magic items do interesting things. A fiery sword, for instance, does fire damage and can light things aflame. It doesn't need a +3 to be awesome. 2. Magic items provide a bonus on attack rolls or saving throws...
