D&D General Adam Bradford, Lauren Urban, Todd Kenrick Leave D&D Beyond

Tracking characters is another way of saying there is a "record" kept of them. Charging will no doubt be part of the game always, and you always have to move in a "straight" line... 6e confirmed!

D&D General Adam Bradford, Lauren Urban, Todd Kenrick Leave D&D Beyond

So much speculation in this thread - some of it has been entertaining, some head-scratching. I'll set the record straight on a few things: The decision for the three of us to leave was 100% voluntary - no one was let go. We all found new opportunities at roughly the same time, and Fandom...

You Have The Power! New Masters of the Universe RPG!

It's actually at the printer now. We expect it to at least start getting out to backers towards the end of September. Available elsewhere after that. (As long as we don't run into any other pandemic-related delays with the printer.)

'Tales from Xadia' Dragon Prince RPG Announced

Right - the six primal sources of magic plus the dark magic of humans will have an impact and cost, just as it does in the show. The Dragon Prince is set in a more or less medieval fantasy world, but much of the story focuses on revenge vs. redemption, overcoming self-doubt, breaking free of...

    D&D 5E The Most Popular D&D Classes & Subclasses

That is correct - for single-class characters only. Allowing for multi-classing raises both the popularity overall of warlock (slightly) and definitely of the Hexblade subclass (to top of characters with warlock levels).

    D&D 5E The Most Popular D&D Classes & Subclasses

I talked about this in the Reddit thread that popped up a couple of days ago: I stated in the stream that this provides a look at what is being played most using D&D Beyond. We're not saying that this data is representative of D&D as a whole, but it is representative of what happens on DDB...

    D&D 5E D&D's Top Magic Items

Yep, I didn't say that experienced players weren't using D&D Beyond - hundreds of thousands (possibly millions, not in front of the data right now) are. Simply sharing that newer players have proven more likely to adopt. I would suggest a couple of primary reasons (hypotheses since I haven't...

    D&D 5E D&D's Top Magic Items

The more data we get, the more we are seeing that new/casual players prefer D&D Beyond because they would rather create a character in five minutes versus an hour. In other words, it is introducing D&D to a whole new group of people at a rapid pace. "Hardcore players" (quoted because what does...

    D&D 5E D&D's Top Magic Items

Incorrect, at least with the "reasonable" filtering we do to determine whether a character is"active" (have they adjusted hit points, taken rests, leveled up on different dates than when they were created, etc.) With 23M+ characters in the dataset, and the surprise these kinds of things seem to...

    Fantasy Flight Games Discontinuing RPGs?

Great idea... I'll get right on it.

D&D 5E Nobody Is Playing High Level Characters

I'm assuming you're calling me the "alien" in this response? A bit insulting, but that never really deters me so I'll bite: The dataset isn't spurious - I have explained here and many times elsewhere that we scrub it for active players (to the best of our reasonable ability to do so), and no...

D&D 5E Nobody Is Playing High Level Characters

I have actually personally answered those questions about this data many times on the development update streams from which this data was plucked. 😊 When it ends up reposted on great news sites like this I have less control over the explanation of the parameters. Hence my efforts in this thread...

D&D 5E Nobody Is Playing High Level Characters

I understand your point, but your point is still based on assumptions and personal anecdotal evidence. You say "profitable group," but there is no way that you actually know that it is such. You say "most of the players who use DDB are probably newer," but you have no way of actually knowing...

D&D 5E Nobody Is Playing High Level Characters

You're actually missing my real point - the amount of the player base that uses those variants that are available in the DMG is incredibly small. Since we have hundreds of things on our roadmap, those variant rules used by such a small percentage of players do not take priority over other...

D&D 5E Nobody Is Playing High Level Characters

We have previously shared that there is no foolproof way to guarantee that any of these characters are being actively played, but take reasonable steps to filter the data the best that we can. For instance, we look at characters that have leveled up on different days and have adjusted hit points...
