Thats how I see it too. So far our group is still playing core 4e and will be starting DS soon after the new CB goes online.
I have played a few Essential games at my LFGS and have had a blast, so much so that when I run DnD I will be using Essentials. I agree that I dont see it as an either/or...
Looks really good. Definitely runs smoother than the current one. He didnt play around with changing portraits but I imagine you can pick and chose from their stable or upload your own?
Does anyone know if you can save on your own computer or do they have to be stored in the Wizards site?

equipment slots
I think the Equipment slots is my favorite part of the sheet overall, but I like the cleaner, less blocky first page. Having the PC portrait on page 1 is also a really nice touch.
Am I missing something?!? Is it really that expensive? I got my DDI for 6.95 and my books cost less than $10-15 each. I dont consider this expensive at all. Even my mini's (which i bought bulk on Troll & Toad) cost me less than .50 cents to a dollar each!
