Is there an "Other" option?
I usually am willing to discuss outside of the game what the players want to do. If there is a particular creature they want to encounter, I'll make sure it happens in some way. I've recently asked my players if the are willing to go along if I run Expedition to...
I'm some where inbetween. I collect Dragon Mags, Dungeon Mags, and just about everything that WoTC puts out - and read them cover to cover. And yet, I'm pretty disorganized when it comes to DMing and I don't have a perfect memory for the rules.
"Think 3.75E, Hope for 3.75E." ... although when I say "3.75," I don't mean that I actually care what they call it. They could call it PIth Edition for all I care. The main thing is that the "new" version remains compatable with 3.5E. There are several reasons why a complete over haul was...
It isn't the DM's job to punish players. If there is a problem with a player, you need to take it up with the player outside the game. Punishing players within the game often results in a DM vs. PC mentality or worse.
And yes, I'm speaking from personal experience.
More information concerning the game

How: A laid-back game for folks that just want to have fun and explore...
Yes, I've been asked not to come back before. I was one of three DMs, and I was going to start a planescape campaign. All (40 something) classes were going to be allowed, and over a hundred different "races", and everybody was going to be allowed two characters. The only stipulation that I had...
I voted before I read the first post... At 1st level I would encourage a new roleplayer to play a bard. You have a little bit of everything with a bard, so you're always useful.
I... wouldn't recommend starting a new player above 1st level, but if it must be done, then they should play a...
I am either looking to form a group or join an existing group of D&D and D20 enthusiasts. I would be available to game on any weeknight and would be willing to travel within reason or provide my own home as a location. I am 26 years old, and would prefer to game with other adults. I am...
I'm in the 2-3 range. You want irony? I'm the local rules lawyer.
Mistakes happen. If it's a mistake in the player's favor, I let it stand. If it's a mistake that kills a character, I often take it back... Unless we're playing Call of the Cthulhu.
Personally, I like the idea of Illumians. As a DM, I like options from which I can craft a new game world. I might not allow Illumians in a standard D&D game, but I am sure I could come up with something where they would fit. So far, I've enjoyed the "Complete" series and the "Races of" series.
I chose "something else". Right now we are using alignment, but in a couple campaign settings I have floating about in my head, alignment will not be used.
