D&D General Wishing Away The Adventure

As the young wizard speaks these words, a tear in the fabric of space and time opens behind them. A being clad in heavy armor steps through the rift. As the wizard speaks the last syllables, several feet of a glowing metal sword erupt from his chest as the armored figure runs him through...

D&D 5E Vertical Jump Rules and a +5 STR modifier

Actually those number don’t sound too bad when we start comparing them to some real life athletes. For reference: a 20 STR gives a standing high jump of (3+5)/2=4 feet or 48 inches. a 16 STR gives a standing high jump of (3+3)/2=3 feet or 36 inches. Now, for the 2022/2023 Season, the average...

D&D General The Elemental cantrips mimicking powerful spells

Not to be that guy, but ice floats IN water, not on it. Put an ice cube in a glass of water and you'll see most of the ice cube under the water. A Quick back-of-the-envelope estimation shows about 10% of the total volume of the ice will be above the water. For a 5x5x5...

D&D 5E Solasta - is it worth playing?

Remember, the light cantrip can be cast on just about anything. Human fighter, have light on that necklace you're wearing, now no matter what weapon you chose, you're in light. Also Dancing light becomes a very nice cantrip, long range, movable. There's a surprising number of fights that happen...

D&D 5E Power Word Kill Houserule: Any <100 hp within 1 minute

I think you need to have some damage caused specified in the spell description. Something like The targeted creature takes 100 HP of damage instantly, no save or resistance apply. In addition the target's maximum HP is lowered by 100. If the target drops to 1 or fewer hp while suffering this...

D&D 5E Power Word Kill Houserule: Any <100 hp within 1 minute

Since we’re posting variants, here’s my take that tries to keep the spirit of the original while upping the possible total damage. Power Word Kill 9th-level enchantment Casting Time: 1 action Range: 60 feet Components: V Duration: 1 minute You utter a word of power that can compel one...

D&D General Looking for fantastical ideas: The Moon

The decapitated god isn't Dead, just sleeping. The actions of one or more of the groups threaten to 'wake up' this god. Other groups who could oppose them are divided as to whether or not this would be a good or bad thing to allow to happen. The god's dream can manifest as anything from a...

D&D General I need help with my d&d storyline

Quick thinking on this. It seems you need to answer 2 questions. The answers to one will influence the other and vice-versa. 1: Why is she the BBEG? What is it about her goals and/or methods that make her the BBEG? 2: What are these artifacts? What do they do? If someone possesses all of them...

    D&D General Run Away!

Several factors can contribute to the “fight to the death” mentality seen by some PCs. Often more than 1 factor contribute to the PCs not retreating in a situation. Broadly some of these are: Game Mechanics: There is no good/viable/easy way to retreat in the rules. If my speed is not faster...

    D&D 5E Why AD&D Rocks and 3e - 5e Mocks all over AC...

Yes, it's mechanically it is functioning like temp-hp that refresh at the start of their turn. But it's not temp-hp so that it will stack with temp-hp. Otherwise any spell that grants temp-hp is seriously nerfed on who would benefit from it.

    D&D 5E Why AD&D Rocks and 3e - 5e Mocks all over AC...

Note: I may have my terminology wrong here. What I am calling DR/turn I envision this way. At the Start of their turn Fighter A has a DR/turn of 8. The first 8 points of damage they receive from any source is negated. Whether from multiple attacks or a single attack, a single opponent, or...

    D&D 5E Why AD&D Rocks and 3e - 5e Mocks all over AC...

I like the idea of Crits bypassing DR, makes them extra special. As to powering up casters if DR doesn't affect magic No, but Yes. No it doesn't power up casters, they do the same damage they are doing now to the armor wearer. But yes in the sense that the wizard's melee body guard is now doing...

    D&D 5E Why AD&D Rocks and 3e - 5e Mocks all over AC...

One work around for this is to have the DR apply per turn, not per attack. For example, a fighter with DR 8 is attacked by a big brute for 15 damage. His DR reduces that to 7 (15 - 8 = 7). A Second fighter with the same DR 8 is attacked by 3 weaker foes who do 4, 5 & 6 damage respectively...

D&D General why brass and bronze dragons?

Yeah, but those dragons just always keep to themselves and don't interact with anybody else very much.

D&D General trying to come up with a decent setting idea.

How's this, (briefly) There once was the old world. Factions/nations/gods vied and warred for dominance over the world. A cataclysm swept the world threatening to destroy everything. Near the end, a way was discovered to escape the old world to a newly discovered world. Many peoples fled to...
