I have, so far, never played a D&D campaign in person (at least for more than 2 sessions), and my 5e experience is all-online through Roll20. I've created a few characters (and lost one, RIP Mara), and tend to fall into Matt Colville's "engineer" player style (trying to optimize my character, etc, because I don't like dying all that much).
