    D&D 4E Some Thoughts on 4e

This is so true of 3e. Wizards were incredible jacks-of-all trades who couldn't melee fight well, but they frequently could launch the biggest munchkin spell of all time (3e fireball). Every party had to have a cleric, and the cleric spent most of her time healing the fighter. I haven't yet...

    Do Mounts change combat?

I have not played with mounts, so I can't say if I find them unbalancing but... If you (the DM) find them to be unbalancing, do one of four things: 1. Give enemies mounts. 2. Make an enemy able to knock a PC off a mount (splatter-city). PCs will think twice about flight. 3. If mounts are so...

    Great game, A few questions

Ah...interesting. The phrasing on PHB pp. 290 says an Opportunity Attack is granted "if an enemy leaves a square adjacent to you" I've been interpreting that to mean that one is granted only if someone is no longer adjacent to you when they end their move. Clearly my misread. Thanks for...

    D&D 4E Some Thoughts on 4e

I, too, have been enjoying 4e. I was an early skeptic, but I love the class-powers mechanic. With due respect to the OP, one of the things I never liked about pre-4e D&D was the "select your powers" each day thing. I just never knew what my character was going to encounter each day. Invariably...

    Adding Recharge to PC powers

I like the idea of recharge for encounter powers. It might be too risky to use on daily powers, though, because after the encounter is over, PCs might just "take 10" until their powers recharge. Then the daily powers will be encounter powers. One way to test out your rules without throwing...

    Feat damage stacking Q

Ah yes: that must be what he used. Thanks for the responses.

    Feat damage stacking Q

Forgive me if this is handled in other threads but... If my maul-wielding dwarven barbarian has Dwarven Weapon Training (+2 hammer damage) Powerful Charge (+2 charge damage) Weapon Focus, Hammer (+1 hammer damage) Does the damage from each stack, or does he just get +2 to damage overall? The...

    Dragon Mag "barbarian playtest" confusion

Firelance: thank you. I find the WoC site too confusing for my poor, befuddled mind.

    Dragon Mag "barbarian playtest" confusion

I find the WoC site quite confusing about the status of "Dragon" magazine. From what I can tell, D&D Insider is now a pay service but the barbarian playtest is free. However, when I go to the table of contents, the Barbarian playtest is still blacked out. Is there a secret society of gamers...

Questions about Commander's Strike + Sneak Attack

So a warlord with a sword can only do a commander's strike if he is adjacent to the person he is commanding? Wow. That makes it less appealing. What is the point of the "shout"ed command when it could simply be a tap on the shoulder?

D&D 4E Is 4E doing it for you?

4e is a powerful, flexible gaming system. It gives players a lot of new, interesting options. Is it *better* than earlier systems? I think so, but the key to D&D for me is the people I game with, not the rules. I had no interest in seeing a new edition of D&D but I think Wizards did a bang-up job.

Unhappy w/4E monster manual..3PP pls. publish monster books pronto!!

All this vitriol heaped against the MM is misguided. The book is awesome. The place it really shines is in the different varieties of the same type of monster -- you can easily "customize" the encounter by adding monsters with different jobs (i.e. strikers, artillery, minions, etc.) I...

    A PC who wont kill

Having a pacificst PC is a bit like having a vegetarian at a pork BBQ. There's nothing intrinsically wrong with the stance, but it is tedious, and reduces the fun.

    Where is the Barbarian?

Sorry if I'm a bit behind, but I keep running into references to the Barbarian class in Dragon Magazine. I look & look, but do not find it. Can someone link me to it please?
