Deadlands Noir - How is it?

We've been playing it for the last few months. It's a lot of fun, so far. The more the players buy into the Noir mindset, the better it is, overall. I highly recommend one PC be a hard drinking Private Detective, for flavor sake. :)

D&D 5E Warlock, Pact of the Blade, Melee

How versatile are you, really, with 2 spells per short rest? Especially if you go 2-3 encounters between short rests? Yes, the Warlock has versatility. I have played and enjoyed one. From a balance standpoint, though, I believe they suffer comparatively.

Both War Caster and Resilient are helpful. That's 8th level minimum, unless you're Human, and even then, you're giving up +2 to 2 stats, which puts you further behind other classes in overall output. Also, apparently, many GMs don't use Feats, which obviates the point.

D&D 5E Warlock, Pact of the Blade, Melee

My issue with 'locks is also an issue I have with Rangers -- in order for them to deal competitive damage, they need Hex up. A Bladelock has to be in melee, so odds of being able to rely on Hex remaining up are lower than it would be for a Boltlock. Combine with the fact that Hex requires...

    D&D 5E Survivor Core Races: HALF-ELF WINS

Dwarf 11 (-3) Elf 5 Half-elf 17 Half-orc 10 (+1) Human 17 Dwarves: Bad Scottish accents, jokes about alcoholism and charging maniacally at slow movement speed don't make for a good character. Caricature, maybe... Half-Orcs: Nothing says "I'm a bad mother-@#$%er" like being big, bad and ugly.

    D&D 5E How many fans want a 5E Warlord?

I wish I had datamining tools to see the post frequency on this topic. It looks like 120 pages of mostly the same couple people going back and forth.

    D&D 5E How many fans want a 5E Warlord?

Actually, it *isn't* which is the point of this thread. The Warlord doesn't exist in 5e. The question is -- *should* it? I have a hard time visualizing a version of the Warlord that would be satisfactory under 5e's design paradigm. At last count, there were over 1000 3rd edition...

    D&D 5E How many fans want a 5E Warlord?

Warlord as a class? I think the role is covered adequately by Valor Bard, Cleric of War or Battle Master Fighter. It's not really *needed.* If such a class were to be made for 5th Ed, I suspect it would be disappointing to most folks who want it because it would perforce be weaker than a...

D&D 5E Ranger fight: PHB vs. UA

It makes them more fragile, though, losing 0.5 hp per level on average compared to the 1d10 standard. 2d6 results in too great of survivability compared to the other classes, and steps on Barbarians toes a bit. If the multi-dice thing is an imperative, the closest mathematically would be...

Only if you want to be stereotypical! Maybe that Barb has a Criminal Background and is trained in Stealth? You don't KNOW! ;)

D&D 5E Ranger fight: PHB vs. UA

"Highly Skilled" means "Proficient with" -- in the same way a fighter is a highly skilled warrior. EDIT: And, yes, a woodsy guy stepping on a twig would be a doofus!

D&D 5E Ranger fight: PHB vs. UA

If I remember correctly AD&D's Ranger had the ability to use two equal length weapons in melee as a unique feature. EDIT: Apparently, I misremembered! Nevermind! In my mind, the "perfect" Ranger would be: * A highly skilled warrior, with bow, axe or sword wearing light or medium armor. * Have...
