Let me see. The bolded statement does not jibe with my experience in PF2 using skills.
If you're an expert in say Deception with an 18 charisma at lvl 8, you should have a Master +6 proficiency, +4 Charisma, and an item bonus of +1. That would be +14 proficiency +4 cha +1 item bonus for a +19...
PF2 isn't as fun as PF1 was, but the balance is nice and makes it easy to run. I like PF2 better than 5E, but not as much as PF1. But I will keep playing PF2 because it's so easy on me as a DM. I do understand as a player not having as much fun given you can't do as much as a PF2 character as...
I'm glad I decided to give Extinction Curse a run. I had held off due the Circus. My buddies and I wanted to do a side campaign as the main one was having trouble getting everyone together. I've been really pleased with the Extinction Curse AP. I keep the Circus mostly in the background other...
I honestly don't like Age of Ashes either. There are good elements to it, but the story is not cohesive. It all occurs by happenstance. The motivation for moving forward is weak. It's like some cool adventure elements placed together in a disjointed, haphazard manner. Definitely not Paizo's best...
I have a natural filter for unintuitive, unnecessary rules in general. Another thing likely not intended, but missed because the PF2 book is so insanely huge.
This is the kind of thing I'm talking about. I did not even know parrying caused an AoO. Is it a move or manipulate action? If so, that is getting excised out. Stupid.
Retreater,
Remember the 3rd book in Age of Ashes if you get there. Near the end. You'll be back here with another TPK. If your group survives, I want to hear about it. That encounter was the most vicious in the AP so far. If you run it by the book with everything reacting in an expected manner...
PF2 could use some clean up. The makings of a very good game are there, but the book Paizo released has far too much in it written in a sometimes strange way. The community should do some clean up work and advise Paizo to clean up and shorten the book.
Some examples of half-assed rules:
1...
Good to hear you finally saw it. I didn't see it until lvl 11 on my bard, but a bard is not as built for blasting. Bards have a lot of other abilities than blasting, so wasn't important. Yeah. Wizards and sorcerers still need some help at those early levels. I keep telling myself I plan to build...
Age of Ashes is tougher than Extinction Curse. It seems because it was designed early, the encounter balance system was a little off. They have some real out of whack encounters. If we didn't have a Champion and a Cleric, I think the early modules would have killed us. Both of those classes are...
Not unless your players are extraordinarily good with a well optimized party including a Champion and a Cleric or a good caster who can split the battlefield. It is very rough if you're a group of loosely organized players with mostly martials and some kind of healer.
Why would you need computerized help? I wonder what you're table looks like. I run things very quickly. I use a pencil to quickly keep track of conditions and modifiers. It takes some memorization, but PF2 is more of a priority list than a need a computer to track everything.
The way you...
Aren't you playing Extinction Curse? I'm surprised your players haven't found a lot of AoE opportunities in that AP. I'm playing the same one and they have way more AoE opportunities than Age of Ashes. Extinction Curse is a more cohesive series of modules with a good mix of hard and average...
PF2 isn't difficult. But it does have a lot of little rules to remember. You don't really need to run them all like some codified law to make the game work. I generally handwave medicine checks when time is not limited.
As far as combat, it runs quickly and easily.
I think PF2 is mostly a...
