    Speak while concentrating?

Without looking at the RAW, I'd allow simple conversation but nothing requiring a great deal of thought. Anything you could say while counting a pile of pennies without losing count seems reasonable OK. The RAW might say otherwise, though.

DMs are too easy on their players

Is it so hard to conceive that different people have different preferred play styles? Personally I prefer games that aren't wall-to-wall combat where death is around every corner. Others do. Life goes on.

    Ship Combat

I ran a pirates game with Skull & Bones, but ditched their ship combat rules which seemed confused and unfocused. I had the PCs occupy different positions on the ship: The captain, mater of tops, master gunner, navigator, bosun, etc. all make skill checks appropriate to their position. The...

    Multiple melee attacks after movement?

Doesn't Heroic Surge give you either an extra attack action or an extra move action (thus not allowing an extra spell)?

    Passing the.....

These times are a great opportunity to allow players a little creative license later. Flashback scenes can be very helpful - for instance, suppose that three sessions later the PCs are adventuring in Townsville and need a local contact. "Hey," one of the players says, "Didn't Fred the Blacksmith...

    2007 Fan's Choice Nomination Thread

Firefly Games for the absolutely wonderful Faery's Tale. I think that was officially released in the specified period, anyway.

    Are Mega-Adventures / APs Bad?

To be honest, that's exactly what my group tries to avoid. Seeing challenges as walking piles of XP, and attempting to provoke the former to gain the latter, doesn't mesh well with our play style. (Edit: It is because our play style is the way it is that our method works; you're entirely right...

    Are Mega-Adventures / APs Bad?

A somewhat radical option: In a mega-adventure that relies on being a certain level at a certain place in the plot, stop giving out XP and just have the PCs level up when appropriate. It's been working for my group for years now.

    Favorite third party monster book

No love for the Bestiary of Krynn? It took second place at the Ennies a couple of years back.

    DL Setting predictions

The Dragonlance Campaign Setting from WOTC, and subsequent material from Spvereign Press/Margaret Weis Productions is all D&D 3.5 (in fact, it was the first setting released for 3.5). In spite of the loss of the license, there's plenty of good gaming material in Dragonlance 3.5 to keep a game...

Do you use D&D XP system as written?

In my freelance work I do (for the most part), but in my own game I pretty much just tell the players "Hey, level up before the next session!" I find the CR system to be not too bad at gaging appropriate challenges, but I generally don't bother with XP. In the adaptation of the old Dragonlance...

    Maths errors in RPGs

(Full disclosure, my wife edits RPGs part time.) I think the problem is far more systemic than simply lax editors. The complexity of the d20 system, the weird process (if any) most publishers seem to use, authors being major pains in the neck (I'm as guilty as any), etc. etc. It all adds up to...
