If wizards was rewriting it for 2024, it would probably be a copy of Produce Flame that deals 1d6 force damage and can't be given to others to throw. "You enchant a handful of pebbles"

Seems whoever the art director was at the time was consistent in their goal to make Drizzt look like a 70-year-old dude. On topic, had no problems using Schley's store, though it was for a digital copy.

Pretty enthused. I had a Dalelands campaign that went to level 9 or so before we ran Storm King's Thunder, and the end is in sight for that. Might have to revisit.

What I would really love is a 5e take on the Book of Lairs - just a big book of 2-page encounters featuring a different monster or NPC for each. Easy drop-in encounters.

My players always have a bad time with the control spells because they try to use them on the big bad and not the big bad's lieutenant.

In the paragraph about Phandalin it talks about what's going on below the town, specifically the Shattered Obelisk and who's collecting it.

Frustratingly, the spells section does not update any of the cantrips from SCAG, such as green-flame blade, booming blade, etc. The new spells are (many/most updates from earlier editions) Alustriel's Mooncloak, L5 abjuration (bard, druid, ranger, wiz) Backlash, L4 abjuration (bard, sorc...

I never even tried this, because as a DM, I would rather spend my time developing NPC plots and encounters than spending hours learning the tools and setting up the perfect 3d alley scene for that 2-hour combat encounter.

The Zombicide board game and its derivatives also give each character 3 actions to spend on their turns, which can include things like move, attack, or search.
