From what I’ve seen the next version is .80, so still kit the full release. Looking at the Discord it seems like a lot of systems are in place but they were waiting for the full release with the updated license to begin data entry for the compendium.
I talked to my group the other night and I’m going to be running Delian Tomb soon. We’re currently working on Kingmaker (but getting close to the end, we’re around level 16 now). We do need to wait for some improvements in the Foundry module but I’m looking forward to it.
Yeah it’s hard to know exactly what WotC/Hasbro’s expectations were. As mentioned I suspect they were pretty high given how much they were spending on the VTT.
I suspect 5.5/2024 did decently, especially when you compare it to 2014 since I wouldn't be surprised if more sales were on D&D Beyond, where Hasbro is going to have much, much higher margins than a physical book.
Did it meet expectations. I suspect probably not because Wizards/Hasbro likely...
The combination of tariffs, people pulling back on discretionary spending due to the slowing US economy/layoffs and now this will probably bankrupt some companies.
I’m glad Darrington added support for Foundry and a group has already been working on a Foundry module. I hope to get a chance to run it via Foundry sometime this year.
Sometimes higher ups are given the option to step down instead of being fired/laid off to save face. I don’t know if that’s what happened here or not but it does happen.
According to a new article from Screenrant Jeremy Crawford is also leaving the DND Design team along with Chris Perkins:

Yeah with a product like Sigil you need to launch with a free premade adventure (probably one of the beginner boxes adventures) and have at least one or two full adventures for sale.
Not surprising. You don’t cut 90% of the development staff of your unfinished product only for it to still be in active development. That’s maintenance/sunset mode cuts. I feel bad for everyone who got laid off and hope they find something soon, but things are tough out there.
Yeah this is pretty big. If 5.5 was doing really well Hasbro would be shouting about it in their financial reports. I do think it's likely 5.5 underperformed compared to what they were expecting or spent on it (especially considering the salaries of software developers isn't cheap).
I'm...
I imagine they were all in because they thought they could make a lot of micro-transaction money off of players with it and additional money from DMs selling premade modules.
If 30 people was 90% of the team that means they have 3 people left working on it. There's no way Project Sigil is going to continue with that small of a development team, that's maintenance mode/wrapping up development levels of small for a major project like this.
Yeah this seems like something that was conceived of back during the height of D&D's popularity with Covid keeping people inside, along with Critical Role and Stranger Things both being very popular, as a way to make more money from D&D players via videogame style micro-transactions, along with...
