World of Warcraft/Everquest D20 books worth picking up??

WoW RPG is pretty imbalanced, and has some maddening changes for the sake of it (eg. trying to recast Dexterity as Agility, and even more maddeningly claiming that the abbreviation for it is *AGY*) but it can be pretty fun. I probably would not try to integrate WoW classes into a normal core...

    Playing hockey in DnD

I generally prefer to do things like this on the battlemat rather than as a skill challenge. I've run basketball (murderball), king of the hill, capture the flag, etc. -type events pretty successfully. Admit to your players that it's hard to make balanced rules from nothing and in play don't be...

Charge - To nearest square? Huh?

    1) This is still a grey area, the rules indicate probably not. If you think 'move directly' indicates straight line travel then turning 90 degress would be disallowed. If you think 'move directly' means only that each square of movement should take you closer to the target then traversing the...

Warlock of Firetop Mountain as an iphone app

It is literally the book with some automation for combat, dice rolling, etc. It even animates page flipping whenever you have to turn to a new paragraph. Good: -The art is all included, and even coloured! -Combat and character sheet automation is pretty sweet. Bad: -Scrolling the page text can...

How big should a 4E map be?

I used an 20x12 battlemat made out of two sheets of A3 paper taped together and laminated, and I have to say that oftentimes lately it felt too small (5 PCs, late paragon tier.) When the levels get higher and there's more large/huge enemies, zones and bursts everywhere I reckon the bigger the...

Jumping off a 10' building = automatic prone?

A player of mine has Endurance, but there is little in the game that it can actually be used for. One thing I also allowed is using Endurance to endure the falling shock without taking as much damage. To Endure falling I use check result / 4, rounded down to reduce the damage. He can also use...

    PC or Mac?

You can't touch the graphics card in any Mac except the Pro. You can't upgrade the RAM in the Air. You can't replace batteries in any of the new laptops. You can upgrade the RAM and HDD in the mini and the iMac, except you need special tools to open them in the first place.

    Magic Item Histories

Reynard posted a few threads with tables for Magical Item Histories, and one for Orc Tribe Backgrounds. I wrote a quick and dirty little .NET app to generate them for you: http://www.enworld.org/forum/attachments/general-rpg-discussion/36719d1222048791-one-million-orcs-namegenerator.zip

Spells in Three Dimensions, Looking for some DM Rulings

I've said in my game that bursts are cubes and blasts are 'squares' that are one 5' cube high. Depending on the spell, the caster may or may not be able to change the 'height' of the cube or square. It's no more correct than any other interpretation, but I think it does make some sense.

    One Million Orcs

Here's a "version 2", which produces paragraphs which read a lot better. It also fixes a bug whereby rolls on the same table mostly always returned the same result (example a sword most recently owned by X meant it was always being sought by X too.) Excerpts:

    One Million Orcs

I made a very rough windows app that generates a brief, semi-coherent paragraph from the tables as listed. Requires .NET to be installed, generates orcish tribes and weapon names/histories. Edit: version 1 removed, please see v2 a few posts down.

    sleep and hobgoblin resilience?

As a matter of fact, this very question came up just this last Sunday for me, with Hobgoblins and Sleep. It's also exacerbated slightly in my campaign because there's a hobgoblon PC as well, so whatever I decided would have more impact than just this fight (the party has no warlord anymore.) In...

PDF Users - how do you print?

One thing which is nice in a book but bad in a binder is starting new chapters on a left hand page - it means you can't put those cardboard indexing tabs into your binder. (Well you can, it just doesn't work as well.) Apart from that, I'd like to back up the points about a margin for hole...
