I think many people agree that WFRP 4E needs a revised core rulebook. From tidying up rules placement to using the updates found in supplements... and a rework of the bestiary that, from rumor, had bits cut out due to lack of space.
As for a 5E I suspect that will be quite a few years out since...

Yeah, but the first Starter Set didn't end with the hobbits fleeing the Shire being chased by 9 undead riders. My criticism is that there wasn't a good mix of heroic cultures. This new Starter Set fixes this for me.
I just purchased the TOR one. I don't have anything against Hobbits, but the original Starter Set didn't feel like the Players were preparing to challenge Mordor.

If you are comparing them to the classes of D&D then a Fighter cannot become a Magic-User without changing class. But in TOW a Boathand can remain in the Boathand Career but become a Wizard. Which is why I don't consider the Careers of TOW similar to classes.
This definitely was a problem if you came to the game from Warhammer Fantasy Battles.
I did not and received my setting information from WFRP 1st Edition and along with the system thought every character was meant to be a second away from death by goblin.
I disagree with this regarding The Old World Careers. A Career restricts nothing after character creation. An Apothecary can be the fightiest fighter you ever did see once they launch out of character creation.
