I picked up two new shiny things last session. I don't have my sheet here at the hospital so I can't remember what kinds they were, but I do know one was worth 500g and the other 100g. That's all. :)
BTW, Mariel has the letter on her so we can take it to someone (don't know who that would be yet!) and ask them if they have any more info about the paper, ink, possible writer, etc.

(Let me preface this by saying I don't know which way I'll go with magic yet, but either one will fit into this story.) I think I'm going to go with the "intellectual caster" approach. She likely got magical "training" at an early age because of an innate "knowledge" of how magic worked...
