You can actually go further and just allow the player to choose whichever primary and secondary they want. Just justify it in flavor. A Wizard based on Dex does magic though dancing, a Palidin based on Chr attacks though shear force of confidence in his god, a Fighter based on Int is basicly a...
One way is to give them the powers that they need for free. First of all everyone likes extra powers and since you are the one giving it to them you can make sure it is exactly the stuff the need. You can even put them in items so they can switch them around as needed. Basicly, they need...
My players felt they weren't doing anything. It was just pick the best skill and roll it. I fixed this but making all of the feats and spells that change up skills more common and at lower level. (The rogue should always have a power to help their own skill rolls, the leader should always have a...
I'm going to agree with the orginal poster but only about the stat requirements. It seems odd to force to stats like than and kind of makes your planning too complicated.
If you could mix and match which two stats and which two energy types made up the feat I think it'd be fine, but it seems...
That's how 3.x worked. It made the system impossible to balance due to the fact that different characters were working on completely different systems. In theory every ability might come down to a point buy system to construct the mechanics and then just add flavor as needed.
I admit it is a bit convoluted and the more I look at it the more I think I'm wrong. The way it's written though makes what you guys say right, skill challenges aren't really doable at all.
Okay, on page 72-73 DMG Step 2 of Skill Challenges it tells you to use the chart on page 42 for the DC...
To be honest I just see power sources as flavor. But yes I do agree basicly just choosing defender|striker|controller|leader and getting good abilities from your main and then okay from one other certainly is okay, and probally a better way to do it. To be honest 4.0 has too much flavor build...
Brilliant, we could then give each one of these combinations a name.
Arcane Controller = Wizard
Arcane Defender = Psyic Warrior
Arcane Striker = Warlock
Arcane Leader = Warlord
Ah, but we can only dream of a this classless system.
DC I have used for various skill encounters. The characters are 8th level for reference.
Sneaking Pass Lazy Giants:4/2
19 Dungeneering, Nature, Stealth
23 Acrobatics, Athletics
27 History, Perception
Covering Up Giants that had to be killed along the way so that the other Giants don't notice...
Here is a basic run down of my 4.0 play sessions so far.
The PCs:
Human Fighter (Unarmed)
Dragonborn Warlord (Chr)
Eldrin Wizard (Controller)
Human Wizard (Striker)
Tiefling Paliden (Undead affinity)
Adult White Dragon
Paliden's opens with dayly power causing it to chase it's tail
for a few...
This is the best way to go as this is generally how Gestalt characters were made in 3.x Luckily the way enoucounters are handled now only have two party members isn't that big a deal.
Options
1 Eleet
2 Standard
1 Standard and 4 Minions
8 Minions
and the encoutner should be balanced.
Of course...
I think that that is okay. It's probally a good thing that people can play some of the classes how they like without being as pidgenholed as many people have been suggesting. Part of the problem is that the PHB can only hold so many options for each character. Now that we have the base...
