The pressure of infinite ideas crowded an infinte space, heated by the passion of someone of formless might, limited only by the highest dimensions of time. Flame sparked across the empty and unbounded metamultivers, ionizing colorless ideas with a furious and very real energy - but to call it "flame" is to term the gambler's dice mere "lines." In the heat of this six-dimensional candle, a multitude of tiny diamonds sparkled, vanishing into a gas made of the very smallest particles and threads of existence. All this from the mind of one being at the borders of chronology - the Diamond Master. The Diamond Master reified the guttering plasmas into a burning lantern, which he gave to the Watchman. Painfully, universes began to resolve out of the diamond nanoshards of [adamas], but the universes were unrelated, ungoverned, and structure was impossible. The light of the Watchman was sent to find a specific imagining - the Steep Norns, ladies of various incarnation across the metamultiverse. Gathered together, the Norns and the Diamond Master wove the Steep [Adamas] into a perfect diamond lattice of many spatial dimensions.
This hyperplane was perfect in every way - and those events whose light it refracted were termed the "Pasts" and those which would operate on the energy of the refracted light were termed the "Futures." The hyperplane boundary was termed the "Present," and the Norns work ever on its flawless thick hypertapestry of time, spinning on threads of n-dimensional spatial diamond mass, [adamas], from which the gods can see inside the secret structures of lesser beings.
Each universe and multiverse was now organized into Facets of one great Diamond. Within, the Diamond Master gave being to his ideas: life and unlife and nonlife. In places of newness or hopeless decomposition, the [adamas] decayed into a gas of genesis, the Eitr which brought life to many a half-conceived notion. To bring his labors towards the limits of infinite efficiency, he fashioned or permitted a myriad of Creator Gods, each giving homage to the work of the Diamond Master. Some were aware of him. Some were not. Some took a hand in their creations, others sat back after setting complex initial conditions. Some Facets had no gods at all; many supported no existence. Those under the Creator Gods could be great or small, of any extent, knowleadgable or mute, empowered or predestined puppets, Steep or limited. Ignorance, evil, weakness, endings; all were part of the Diamond, along with good and triumph and resource, but their master did not punish or complain. The threads of the Steepest Norns were multitudinous and many-colored. They sought to reward color, count, and variety; the Diamond Master sought many to multiply his endless effort of cataloging endless ideas with his endless power. He watched universes rise and fall, and learned from them. He assigned the Norns to watch far and wide with enchanted crystal orbs and multitudinous raptor-sharp eyes for those of power on par with his own, but it was not until he turned around that he first saw the Lady.
In a Facet of Honor, the Diamond Master created a wondrous Garden of diamond, adamant and [adamas] and brightness, filled with ornament, monument, and architecture. He stocked it with life and interest. About this garden he arrayed places of esteem, sites where his chosen Pantheon could build homes to be near other gods of great merit. Great evils, powerful corruptions, Steep obstacles crept inside the Immortal Facets, and the Master ignored them as part of the balance and beauty, a living artwork, though not all were balanced and many could not be seen at all. The Norns were to bring in their favorite threads, granting them access to this Pinnacle Tapestry from their varied homeworlds. The Garden became a place of peace surrounded by beautiful, conflicted chaos. In time, though, the results would surprise everyone...
