D&D 5E Bardic Lore: A Basic College of Lore Bard Guide

I'm actually going back and forth on this spell. What I like is that it fills a few niches...damage, teleport, and the "oh s#it I need to get out of here". Plus, "any space you can see" can be abused. What I don't like is that it's not ally friendly, and 30' is a big radius to be...

D&D 5E [GUIDE] Dealing Death: Handbook of the True Assassin

What he is likely getting at is the idea that sneak attack damage van be applied "once per turn", not once per round. How people use this is to find a way to attack outside of their turn, either by readying an attack with your Action Surge action or being granted one by someone else's ability...

    Limiting Pregen Choices

So the question of what's legal in AL isn't really relevant, because this wouldn't be a case of saying no to something...this is a question of what other DMs make available to new players. Are you saying that you only present the "simpler" pregens unless someone asks for a spellcaster? I think...

    Limiting Pregen Choices

Two thoughts. 1) We use the pregens provided in the Basic Set or by the AL, neither of which provide spell descriptions. We do have copies of the Basic Rules available, which include all those spells. If you've got someone in your store enhancing the pregen offerings, good on you guys. We...

    Limiting Pregen Choices

So the DMs in my store have been discussing pregens with me. Specifically what pregens we offer to new players. The concern is that the spellcasting classes (cleric, wizard) are more complicated than a fighter or a rogue, and the DMs often find that unless the person shows up early enough for...

That player in the back of the room

He's definitely got some social issues. I've got the store owner involved...we spoke to the player...and we'll see.

That player in the back of the room

No...not really. I've been listening. The plan was, and has always was, to talk to the person outside of the game. Since this person is, as you have probably guessed, a bit of a 'special and unique snowflake', I was just trying to collect as much advice as possible. (To the point of...

That player in the back of the room

The players had actually suggested that he play a bard, since the bard would be able to not only heal, but provide inspiration. The player seemed very turned off by this idea. Been wondering about this. The modules typically state: "Total up all combat experience earned for defeated foes...

That player in the back of the room

So I had a few players at one of the tables approach me with an interesting complaint. There's a player at their table who had been playing a pacifist character. You know the one...a cleric who doesn't do anything but heal. A decent roleplayer, but one that added very little to combat...

    AL and Deep Gnomes

This. The conversation usually goes something like this: "Where is that race (or spell)?" "It's in the Elemental Evil Players Companion" "Oh, where do I get that?" "Up on (whatever DMsGuild used to be). Here's the link." (clear expression of "Oh, I have to go look it up?".) Subject gets...

    Vistani PCs

Yes, thanks! I'm going to direct the player to http://forgottenrealms.wikia.com/wiki/Gur for more information.

    Vistani PCs

So my group is about to do a Session Zero to build new characters for Death House...and while I see the Haunted background, I was asked by a couple of players whether or not they could play Vistani. Having little history myself with Ravenloft (I know, shame on me), I am assuming that this is...

Which adventures in the DMs guild are AL legal? (please put this in player's guide)

The challenge is that it's a PACKET of information. The reality is that very few people, especially people who already "know" the rules aren't going to read it at all. What's needed is something short and tight. The trick is that every time we start talking through what should be on a...

Build-wise, what's rare in the AL?

Yes, but you can also polymorph the CR 10 bad guy (or the CR 5 lieutenant who is only there to keep the party from focusing on the BBEG or to give the BBEG some buff) into a box turtle. This is brutal if you also have the ability to debuff the target's saving throws (or have a diviner in the...

Build-wise, what's rare in the AL?

You say that...but I've found a few players who love playing their BMs. It's not an optimized option by any stretch, but they aren't complaining. And polymorph? You might be using that spell wrong. I have singlehandedly trivialized numerous boss fights with that spell.
