In your case if the players have acted, but still not spotted the enemy, they should still be flat footed when they walk near his square and he jumps out at a PC since the opponent is essentially invislable to them right?

The reason I have see some people rule that they don't work against constructs/animated objects is that the Magic Missile description specifies that it does not work on "objects". I was wondering if anyone else has seen it ruled that way.
Is there any reason not to allow players to take 20 when searching for traps since most traps don't go off on a failed search check? I have played with some DMs that don't allow it, but I don't really see any reaon why.
