Thanks for all the replies! I tend to think inside the box: trying to justify why the monsters behave the way they do rather than change them. So this helps get me out of the box. The people on this forum are always helpful!
I'll use the fog idea for sure as they enter the city to add suspense...
Some really great ideas here! I may use Fate Eaters (never heard of them before) if they seek the Oracle. (I'm already using Woe Striders--but calling then Haruspex or Clairvoyeurs--in a Shadowfell corrupted city.)
The Draydspikes are inspired. Really great for what I need.
Before I read your...
Need to add interest to this encounter (environmental hazards or monsters). I'm using this amazing battlemap for my ruined city: Cursed City: https://www.patreon.com/posts/cursed-city-town-75329951
I have four lvl 15 players (Paladin with Pegasus, Druid, Sorcerer, and Artificer). They have...
I have a player with Telepathic and Actor feats and wants to impersonate people while speaking in their minds. The spell Telepathy says the target is aware of who is contacting them (and is two-way communication), but the Feat does not. Telepathy spell says that one can share words and sounds...
I have an encounter planned where an Archdruid that is devoted to an Aboleth (in a cracked Stone of Golorr scenario: it can communicate and Enslave only). The aboleth has enslaved a small town and their building an artificial lake to create its new home before being released from the stone. With...
Agreed. I'm learning that now, and trying to incorporate it. Dungeon Dudes have a great video on Combat (part 2 of 3) that was very helpful in thinking about combat. Waves of 'grunts' and such. But the CR Solo monster chart in XGtE they use as a starting point was unhelpful since the Mummy Lord...
Concept is the Mummy Lord was a Queen/Cleric of Light, who was willingly changed into a Mummy Lord after death to protect their sacred legendary weapon from their Shadow enemy for eternity. The transformation destroyed much of the Cleric's mind, and no longer remembers her life--seeing anyone...
Thanks for confirming my suspicion that the CR rating was WAY off. lol It's no Mumm-Ra.
I'd give it a spell reflection item, but I don't want it to fall into the hands of the players.
The bulk of the map is difficult terrain: beach-like sand and fallen rocks. I was trying to think of a sand tentacle effect (Black Tentacles) in the center of the chamber. Or a whirlpool of sand that drags them down (quicksand rules?). I'm a new DM so creating these environmental things is a...
I have a party of 4, level 13 players. One is a Paladin who has an aura that prevents being frightened as well as a +1 Sword. Two characters can do fire damage. The rest of the party is a Druid, Sorcerer, and Bard. They wipe out solo monsters quickly; and use Banishment. The Paladin did about 80...
