I stopped using XP and level up characters based on passage of time. I also increased the lethality of combats in my game. Players tend to avoid combat unless they have to do it and have no other way around it. Since there is no meta award to fighting creatures to level up and the...
I'm currently working on 5e stats for Strahd for my campaign. I've designed him to be a 12th level fighter and a 16th necromancer. This fits best in my opinion with his history. Yes he is outrageously formidable, but that's OK for me.
Why is there an assumption that people have forgotten realms product from the past four editions? And why have people hunt down old product for current games? The realms info that is coming out is splattered among multiple books. It's not user friendly and not very welcoming or inviting. I'm...
That's the angle I was pondering. Flat HPs based on con and creature size, increasing weapon damage, and DR from armor. I'm working out the numbers to see how it looks. I like the idea of ogres being terrifying, not to mention giants and dragons.
I half expect that WOTC might hand the magazines over to a 3rd party since they are limited in staff. And I would expect it to be Paizo again! WOTC is showing a willingness to work with outside professionals. This would be great if it happens. Print mags again and by Paizo... A guy can dream. :-)
Yeah, my campaigns don't have easy access to potions unless they are created by the party. Same with resurrection... Its not waiting there to be used. Death is a real concern in my games. Otherwise victory just would seem to be a big deal if the consequences weren't there.
WOTC had a lack luster showing at GAMA trade show this year as well. What energy they had went to Magic the gathering. Being its just about the release of 5E and the 40 year anniversary of D&D... I expected much more. They came across like a second rate company with a ho hum product. Kinda...
I agree exactly with this. I am going to give this a try starting next week when I run the new hardback Rise of the Rune Lords. Ill post my feedback and results from it as I go. And thanks to everyone for sharing so far. It helps a lot.
In regard to many light damaging attacks versus heavy armor, I do believe that would replicate the reasoning for and use of armor. It is supposed to prevent damage, that is the point. Though the assumption that the whole world is dressed in full plate is not what your stating right? Full plate...
Yeah, im fine with accepting that smaller characters will not be melee powerhouse. Though all characters ending up as heavy hitters is something im not worried about. My campaign should be only about 1/3 combat and of that not much will be decked out in armor.
