Yeah the system was o.k. Although 1st edition was too hard in terms of character improvement, and 2nd edition was too easy. But it was fast and dirty, like good sci-fi should be. I have the same problem as you with my gaming group; I'm the current DM (D&D). But I can't get them too play...
