Looking for a blog for an RPG calendar

We use a Wiki (PhpWiki to be exact) to hold game notes, world information etc. We have 2 calendars one is the real world calendar where we can keep track of who is available to play. the other one is a game events calendar where we can keep track of events that have happened by date. In order...

    True North Cartography: Maps

Out of interest, what were the other 3 programs ? The terrain looks very realistic. How did you go about creating that? Was it all by hand or did you use some kind of terrain generation program? regards, Frugal

Herowar, the massively simple non graphical mmorpg

Okay, so it is not world of warcraft, it is small, still underdevelopment and is very simple, but it is also great fun and addictive as hell. Herowar is a simple text web based mmorpg where you can build your fortune, or if you prefer attack people and nick their stuff...

Which character generator is best-E-tools or PCgen?

You are aware that all of those spreadsheets are technically illegal aren't you? You might get away with fair use in the US, but even then WoTC have a good case for a cease and desist. There are only 2 reasons that they have not done so: They would get no money and they would get lots of bad...

Baldur's Gate 3 and Neverwinter Nights 2 all-but-confirmed by Atari!

Remember Atari are just Infogrames rebranded... Infogrames was getting so much bad press that they bought Atari just to use the name

Anyone know anything about Imaging documents?

OCR packages like Omnipage PRO let you work in batch mode with what they describe as templates. You use templates to define where on the page you are interested in text. So if you were scanning in work orders you would set up a block for each piece of text you wanted scanned in: Order number...

Why's it so hard to create a character generator that rocks?

I started to do exactly this, I wrote over 100 unit tests forthe new code I added. I tried to get as many developers as I could to follow my example. Now 6 months later I have a sore and bloody head from beating it against a brick wall and a lot of the tests fail because the developers do not...

Why's it so hard to create a character generator that rocks?

This is the difference between what you want from a character generator and what the PCGen developers wnts from a character generator. You can not simply point at PCGen and complain that it does not do what you want, it never will, it was not designed for you. PCGen is designed to be able to...

Why's it so hard to create a character generator that rocks?

Just as a quick metric PCGen has over 900 classes and 300,000 lines of code. To make it slick and user friendly would probably double that to 1,800 classes and 600,000 lines of code.

Why's it so hard to create a character generator that rocks?

D&D rules like most things in life follow the 80/20 rule: 80% of the rules are straightforward and easy, 20% of the rules are a complete nightmare. Have you ever looked at the monster advancement rules for 3.0? A decent PC generator has to cope with 3.0 and 3.5 the differences in rules are...

    Tell me about medieval armies!

The english were required to train in the use of the longbow for the defence of the realm on Sundays and Feastdays. The penalty was the stocks, or a fine of tuppance. The usual starting age for archery practice was 5 and the average age to first go to war was about 16. So you were practicing...

    Tell me about medieval armies!

The slaughter at Agincourt had more to do with the arogance and stupidity of the French knights, they did not believe that the flower of French chilvalry could be defeated by some english farmers with sticks ;) the French started the battle at the bottom of a muddy hill (by muddy I mean you...

Again another example of CHA as dump stat

As someone currently playing a diplomat it annoys the hell out of me that I have spent the past 14 levels working on the social skills, yet when it comes to a diplmatic situation every character from the cha 8 half orc upwards feels that they can talk us out of it ;(

Do your characters know what level they are?

If the question is "Do the characters know what level they are?" then obviously - no - a character has no concept of "levels". If the question is "Do the players know what level their character is?" then yes. However they do not know how many experience points they have and they do not know the...

Do your characters know what level they are?

I would agree. Anyone who has ever had any kind of martial training can look at an opponent and have a fair idea of the outcome of a fight. There will obviously be exceptions to the rule but in the most part you can work out who the real threats are at any point.
