ExploderWizard - that may have been the best way I have seen this feeling said. The game isn't the same game anymore, but that doesn't make it bad, just different.
I cannot blame Wotc for changing it into something different and marketable for it's time. I mean the basic premise stays the same...
I hope that Midnight ends up 4e. either way I will be using the CS for my 4e game. I may advance the timeline another 50 or 100 years and make the PC's be the first to access divine magic... the return of the Gods?
Defense of the Paladin
I find myself drawn to the defense of the most noble and virtuous of classes.... the Paladin. I have played a few Paladins in my days, both as a player and a Dm. Here are my 2 cents.

Pretty much the only thing I am concerned with are the future of the abilities and powers. We have seen too many time (d20 modern), when a games comes out and the rules system rocks and then all of the sudden every [insert class name] is the same because there are only 3 powers to choose...
Speaking of Treants
Do we know if Treants are in the new MM? I am thinking of running a very tolkien-esque campaign and I would love to use them. In 20 years of role-playing I don't think I have ever encountered or ran a game with treants.
