    Legion of Sentinels, Mass Whelm

It does sound pretty good in some situations, although I'd expect a 12th level caster to come up with something better. Off the top of my head; Regeneration, Warforged, Trollkin (Iron Kingdoms).

Bulding BBEG Assassin - RAW Q

Have a lookie at Healing Touch on page 100 of the Book of Exalted Deeds. It's s bit *ahem* dicey, but it does the trick.

    What's a Cleric to do...

Necromancy != Evil Granted there are a number of Necromancy spells which are naughty-naughty, but if you're interested in technicalities just avoid spells with the [Evil] descriptor (e.g. Animate Dead). In terms of whether you may spontaneously cast Cure or Inflict spells via the Spontaneous...

    Regarding Spider Climb

I could believe that the +8 to your Climb skill is there so you can much more easily catch hold of a wall you're falling past (and hang on whilst catching another character). The skill has other applications than movement.

    Produce Flame Question

It doesn't provide a touch spell (for further evidence, see the spell's range of 0ft). It offers two new weapons, one requiring a melee touch attack, the other requiring a ranged touch attack. Think of it as spending your (spellcasting) standard action to draw a weapon (although this would ofc...

Trying again: What would it take to get _you_ to use core only?

I don't need to be offered any bonuses to be restricted to Core only, I really don't mind.

    Light-armored fighter advice

"Players Guide to Fighters and Barbarians" by Swords & Sorcery has a couple of feats that would help your AC if it's permissable. Cloth Dancing (with a prereq. or Dodge) allows you to add +1 dodge bonus to AC, relying on flowing clothing and motion (i.e. not whilst bound or grappled) and...

    Sword&Board fighter - throwing?

I don't know if it's in keeping with the intended flavour of the character, but if you have armour spikes, you can use them for your off-hand attack, allowing you to step down to a buckler for the off-hand throw. Can't you?

    Aligned Magic Weapon

Book of Exalted Deeds has the Blessed enhancement (cost +1) which makes a weapon Good-aligned for bypassing DR and automatically confirms critical threats against evil creatures (this second ability being non-stacking, so will not take effect on e.g. a Keen weapon).

    Combat Expertise and Fighting Defensively

Yarr, my bad, I did indeed notice and take in the "3E" reference but thought you might have moved on in later paragraphs. That'll teach me to abbreviate "Combat Expertise".

    Combat Expertise and Fighting Defensively

Are you referring to 3E now? In 3.5 am I not correct in my understanding that the move action and the attack action (a standard action) are seperate things? That is to say, you may be in melee when you begin moving away from the hobgoblin, but you're not making an attack action - yet. Isn't it...

    Combat Expertise and Fighting Defensively

Combat Expertise provides a dodge bonus, so no use against an invisible attacker. Still, since you opt to apply it when you make an attack, I'd say the modifiers kick in at the start of your attack action - so if you move first, you don't count the Expertise bonus to your AC until you end your...

    Improving Tripping

Are you open to venturing outside WotC? The Swords & Sorecery "Player's guide to Fighters and Barbarians" by White Wolf (admittedly a 3E supplement) has a nice feat called Polearm Trip - it allows the use of any long-hafted two-hander as a tripping weapon and you consider yourself to be one...

    Complete Scoundrel Crossbow Bayonet Alternatives

Have a little look at the Deathwand Crossbow in the Arms & Equipment Guide. It's under Specific Magic Weapons, and essentially it's a +2 Light Crossbow that has slots for two wands (wands can be swapped in as a move action), and the wielder of the crossbow is considered to be wielding both wands...

    Is 'Heat' a damage type?

Also, steam deals fire damage, for example the Steam Mephit's breath weapon. (Based on that I'd consider the damage from Murderous Mist - Complete Divine - to be fire also).
