It's Not Easy to Find a Gaming Group

The problem with a lot of these sites are the are for online games and not helpful are even useful if you are looking for F2F games. Worse is that the don't mention that until you have signed up.

It's Not Easy to Find a Gaming Group

As any ex-military can tell you, find groups is a skill that you have to learn. You are moved quite often, and are constantly losing and gaining players. So you got used to trying to find a group every year to 3 years. You also learned that you had to be more flexible on the type of...

    Obvious Truths Go Here

Not in my games. No beer, wines or other drugs wanted. ;). All gaming groups are different.

D&D General Where is magic prohibited in your world??

First let me state that I am not good at expressing my self, so I will try to clarify my stance on your quoted sections. As to your response to my questions. Yes but is it common for people in London, England? Now if they are located in a unsettled area such as the US wild west there is more of...

D&D General Where is magic prohibited in your world??

I don't use such large blanket laws, rules, customs. Magic is treated like any other set of tools. You don't use combat magic such as fireballs, magic missile or their like with out a good reason, just as you don't go around today and shooting weapons today. But mend, unseen servant, light are...

D&D General How many encounter do you complete before getting a Rest?

I don't have a set number. While I use the daily limit, What level of dificulites vary to match the story/adventure I am running. One day it might be nothing but easy and the next day of combat, it might be one or two deadly with nothing else with no time for a short rest.

Worlds of Design: WANTED - More Game Masters

I have had players who specifically refuse to DM. They don't complain and are just happy to play. Of course there are all types. Since I start running games in 1980 I have seen all types. The best hope is to encourage the ones that what to try it. One way is to set up a one off quest in your...

Worlds of Design: WANTED - More Game Masters

While I prefer to DM, I also want to be a play every 2nd or 3rd Campaign. That was fine because up until 2005 I was in a group that ran 3 to 4 campaigns per week and had 3 DM and up to 14 players. I have taken a long break of over 10 years (my to my dismay). I doubt that there will ever be a...

D&D 5E My House Rules for My Homebrew Campaign (Feedback Welcome)

For looting of monsters, you might also want to check out Monster Loot that is on DMG. It not only helps set prices but has rules for looting and how to use some of the loot. It might not be exactly what you want but it does have some good ideals to use.

With how many people have of role-played with since your first game?

Between being ex-military, being in an average of 2 to 3 game per week (some times up to 5), I have played a lot. Lot of the games did not last past six months. Taking that means 6 characters per year for over 30 years. So over 300. Most I don't remember as the games are not worth remembering.

D&D 5E What is your definition of a Vanilla setting

This is a strange question for me. I have never ran nor played in any of these world long enough to get a feel for them. A max of 6 sessions per campaign with no more than 4 or 5 campaigns since I started in 81. A vanilla setting to me is one with out any back ground/world building. Just the...

D&D General WotC Has Owned D&D Longer Than TSR Did

Game systems are not books. They are closer to cars are computers are even computer operating systems. They are tools to create create stories and fun. With that in mind, D&D is closer to Windows then any thing else. A long list of great to horrible versions but still continue to dominate its...

D&D General WotC Has Owned D&D Longer Than TSR Did

You are probably right for most of them. They like their parents moved on to the newer versions just like my daughter who is playing 5e. She started in the 80s and has played 2nd and 3rd editions.

    D&D 3E/3.5 3.X Retrospective 19 Years in Production.

And here is another point. 2e did not have legal third party books/items in any number what so ever, but 3.x (thanks to the SRD) had far more 3rd party books then Wizard products.
