D&D 5E DPR Monk/Sorcerer build: The Shadow Kensei

Most of the monk abilities (specifically, the martial arts damage dice, the ability to attack with Dex, and the free bonus action punch, don't work while you have a shield equipped, so you're capped at AC 16. I don't think that's good enough. (Edit: Realized this wasn't what you meant, and 18...

D&D 5E DPR Monk/Sorcerer build: The Shadow Kensei

Do you think I should start with a better Con and live with a lower Wisdom? Might be worth looking into, since I could use mage armor to pad my AC. My plan for lower levels is to use Flexible Casting to create more slots. Second level slots cost 3 points, and we don't really have any other big...

D&D 5E DPR Monk/Sorcerer build: The Shadow Kensei

Constitution save proficiency is extremely important for this build (We're a melee build with 12 Con who's damage comes from a concentration spell), and we don't have an ASI to spare for Resilient Con since we have two primary attributes. The main reason I went Sorc was to start with Con save...

D&D 5E DPR Monk/Sorcerer build: The Shadow Kensei

We don't really have the slots for it either. Shadow Blade only lasts a minute, so we have to recast it every fight, and we also have to recast it if ever we fail a concentration check, which we won't have amazing bonuses to.

D&D 5E Monoclass DPR Comparison: Eldritch Knight Archer vs Melee Arcane Trickster

Right, I forget that readying a spell breaks your concentration.

D&D 5E Monoclass DPR Comparison: Eldritch Knight Archer vs Melee Arcane Trickster

I feel like for an Arcane Trickster, you're better off using Haste instead of Shadow Blade when you get it. If you're hasted, you can ready a Booming Blade to use on another creature's turn and use the additional action from Haste to attack on your turn, which triggers sneak attack twice.

D&D 5E DPR Monk/Sorcerer build: The Shadow Kensei

While monks have access to some strong control options, most notably stunning strike, they tend to suffer in the DPR department, especially at higher levels. The martial arts weapon damage dice scales slowly, and monks have few good options for increasing their damage. This is a build that...

    Let's Maximize the Sentinel Feat

The Vengeance Paladin's ability Relentless Avenger combines extremely well with Sentinel and Polearm Master: If an enemy walks into your (10-foot) reach, you get an opportunity attack. You swing with your polearm, and if you hit, the target's speed is reduced to 0 and you can move your speed...

D&D 5E [GUIDE] Paladin Multiclassing: An in Depth Analysis

Best of luck with making this, looks good so far.

An in-depth optimized Cleric build for levels 1-5

Level 5 This is the level where Cantrips scale, and 2d12 damage from a Toll the Dead will beat the 1d8+3 damage from a rapier or longbow, especially with our 18 Wisdom. We also get access to third-level spells, and our ability to deal area damage significantly improves. We're taking Revivify as...

An in-depth optimized Cleric build for levels 1-5

Level 4 At this level, we get an Ability Score Increase, and we have the choice between more Dexterity, more Wisdom, or a feat. Since we're nearing the level where our cantrip damage scales, we're going to be increasing our Wisdom at this level, which grants us +1 to hit and to our save DC, +1...

An in-depth optimized Cleric build for levels 1-5

Level 3 At this level, we gain access to second-level spells, and our choice is the Cleric damage staple Spiritual Weapon. Every turn, we can use a bonus action to attack with the weapon for 1d8+3 force damage, which practically doubles our DPR over just using our normal weapon. We can't use it...

An in-depth optimized Cleric build for levels 1-5

Level 2 We can either take 1d8+2 hit points, or 7. I always recommend you take the 7, since it's actually higher than the average you would get from rolling, but the choice is up to you, maybe you'll get lucky. At second level, we gain our Channel Divinity, and for Tempest Cleric that's Wrath...

An in-depth optimized Cleric build for levels 1-5

In my experience, the levels 1-5 are where most of the play in DnD happens, especially for new players. Many campaigns start at level 1, and are most of the way done by the time you reach level 5, for one reason or another. So I've decided to make a character guide for levels 1-5, to help out...

What offline IRL resouces and techniques do players recommend in managing their character sheets?

I've had good success with dice. If you play DnD at a local game store, you'll likely be able to buy a "spindown", which is a special d20 in which every number on the face is adjacent to the previous number. It's used in Magic: The Gathering for keeping track of life totals, and if you have 20...
