Was running a game recently, and it was my group's first real experience with combat in 5e. It went great, but I came upon a scenario that had me stumped:
One of my players (lvl 1 Dwarf Barb) was attacking a charmed guard. He - like the rest of the party - had no intention of killing the guard...
Here's how I flavour combat based on Attack roll vs AC:
Your AC is 10 + Dex modifier. Let's say Dex is 15. AC is 12. So any Attack roll result that falls within that range of 1 - 12 is deftly avoided.
When incorporating armour, the game changes a bit.
AC is 11 (leather for example) + Dex...
Personally, I can't wait to snatch up as much 5e content as possible! I cut my teeth on 4e almost two years ago, and for the longest time I've pined for something different. I wanted more control as a DM, and I wanted my players to roleplay and use their imagination more, not just read ability...
