I have yet to see an adventure from WoTC that didn't need a lot of work to make it playable, I am very happy that they are leaving Greyhawk alone. DM's Guild tends to do things better. No shade on WoTC writers, they have many more restrictions on their writing I am sure.
Did I miss something...
This is all second or even third hand info but I had heard at the time that he destroyed Oreth in the Gord novels on purpose, because he hated what they did with "his" setting. Take it with a grain of salt and it was a long, long time ago.
What did Gygax intend? From what I understood, From the Ashes was a big FU to him after he was booted. I would be interested to know if he had such plans in the works before he left?
I Was running a lot of Greyhawk at the time and pretty much ignored From the Ashes. I was pressured to switch to...
I guess the question is, do you accept Gary Gygax as the inventor and steward of Greyhawk or the various 2nd edition authors? While I am sure that Wizards will do whatever they desire with Greyhawk, they appear to have turned back the changes that 2nd edition made. In the end it's your Greyhawk.
If I remember correctly. The City of Greyhawk had a heterogeneous population. The Lords of the city were of mixed alignments and all alignments were welcome there, even creatures of evil alignments. It was meant to be the ultimate free city with the main law being greed.
Absolutely love that they rolled it back to pre Greyhawk Wars. That would be a fitting tribute to Gygax.
He hated what they did in 2e to Greyhawk, perhaps because he was booted from the company, perhaps because they were trying to destroy the setting and piss him off.
He literally destroyed...
