    D&D 4E hex rules for 4E?

Bwahaha! I also kinda feel like 4e and hexes are two great tastes that will taste great together, but I haven't tested my theory yet. Even if it's not better, though, getting cones and circles instead of square everything might be enough to convince me.

    Ability Modifiers and "Monster" Races

I dunno, I'd be happy with +2 Dex, +2 Int. It's still a little weird, but it's a rare combination and it works for them being good at crafts and traps and things like that. Of course, what I really want to give them is something along the lines of +4 dex, -2 Str, and a speed bonus. Oh well...

    Ability Modifiers and "Monster" Races

I love both those comics, but the fact that they are both explicitly based on D&D makes using them as an example sort of recursive. Also, both of those comics go out of their way to twist and satirize the conventional assumptions within D&D. Something as global as racial features should UPHOLD...

    Ability Modifiers and "Monster" Races

Note to self: do not use goblins in an example when trying to spark discussion about a broader topic. Goblins are so cool that once you bring them up, nobody wants to talk about anything else. :D

    Ability Modifiers and "Monster" Races

I see what you're saying here, and it's not a bad thing to separate it that way. Balance is important to fun. Thing is, why not just go all the way, then? Why not say "Everybody gets a +2 to any two stats" and let the racial features be the only thing that differentiates ALL the races? I mean...

    Ability Modifiers and "Monster" Races

This is a good point. I'm definitely in favor of the design principle of not penalizing weird choices. I like that they make it much harder to build an ineffective character, especially because it makes it less likely to accidentally build an ineffective character. This is a good thing on...

Table of ability scores for each PHB race, MM race, and class

To the OP: I want to thank you for putting this together too. Very handy. I disagree with the design decision to make all the races follow the same ability mod pattern of 2 at +2 and no penalties, though. I just made a thread about this, in fact. Even with the need to suppress min-maxing, I...

    Ability Modifiers and "Monster" Races

Um, which myths and legends? I'm not a folklorist, but generally in fairy tales and whatnot goblins are hostile, greedy, dangerous, and often have predatory physical features like sharp pointy teeth or the like. In Tolkien, which hopefully we can agree is one of the supporting pillars of the...

    Ability Modifiers and "Monster" Races

So I still don't have the rules (not even the pirated ones) but in the newly-available info on the MM races, it turns out that every one of them has exactly two stat bonuses, and no penalties, just like the PHB races (except humans). I, for one, am shocked and dismayed, but haven't seen much...

    D&D 4E [Eberron] Dragonmarks in 4E

FWIW, I agree with those saying that the Siberys Heir PrC works better as a Paragon Path (or maybe just a series of Paragon Feats, even) despite its high level requirements in 3.5. It's just not on the scale of the various ways of being immortal, and given the fluff of the draconic prophecy...

    D&D 4E [Eberron] Dragonmarks in 4E

I'd be happy with a lot of the different options presented so far, but if I were to design it myself I think I'd make the least dragonmark grant an appropriate daily utility power, as well as the ability to take special rituals that only bearers of that dragonmark can use. I haven't seen...

    Monk = __________ Striker

Personally, in my desire to scratch the itch of home-brewing a monk I'm seriously considering dividing the concept into two classes. The first ("Martial Artist") would be a Martial Defender, but a very controller-y defender, or maybe just a controller depending on the criteria for the classes...

    A Doubters Review

Well, I don't know for sure because I still haven't gotten my hands on a playtest or anything, but it seems like the fun way (or the least-not-fun way perhaps) to handle this is to add it into the power cards system. Just print out little cards, or even half-cards or thin slips that have the...

    Daily Art Preview

Yeah, I'm disappointed by the new worg too. It doesn't look wolflike, it doesn't look intelligent, and a goblin definitely couldn't ride it. (unless Goblins have a racial power that lets them resist big bony spikes to the crotch in 4e) I'm certainly open to the possibility of there being...

8 power sources. so what are the other 4?

I'm with you on this, but I actually think a Draconic or Dragonblood powersource is more likely than the general one. WotC has a Thing about dragons, largely because the D&D fandom apparently has a Thing about dragons. I don't think being able to play Dragonborn characters will hold them over...
