D&D General Does anyone recall coming across any magic weapons that return when thrown...other than Dwarven Thrower, Hammer of Thunderbolts or magic boomerangs?

I recall BITD having a pair of dagger sheaths that were enchanted to teleport the daggers back after they had been thrown. The daggers had to be placed in said sheaths for some period of time to become attuned. What I don't recall is if this was a home brew item. If I can find the character...

D&D General Does anyone else title their D&D sessions?

I give each session a title when I post the summary to the blog. I always come with the name after the session and I avoid just using a module name , if I can. Some recent ones: Sabotage and Skullduggery Barbecue. Crashers Plot Dump (followed by) Less Lore, More Gore Total. Party. Kill. DM...

D&D General What to Do with a Dragon Corpse?

I stumbled on this site: Adult Dragon, Harvesting & Loot, treasure from a D&D creature when I had the same question from my group regarding a defeated wyrmling white dragon. A lot of details for harvesting bits of monsters.

D&D General How Long Did You Play Only D&D Before Trying Another Game

I'm assuming “another game” refers to RPGs. I started playing D&D around 1978. The next RPG I can recall playing was WEG Star Wars, in 2022.

For those of you who have set up play-by-post games, how do you do it?

I joined RPOL.net in 2019 and have been playing in multiple games since; currently in 11 active games. I’ve not GM’d a game so I can’t speak to that side of things but from the comments and discussions with the GMs running my games it sounds pretty intuitive to use. From a player’s perspective...

D&D General How would you feel if Official Adventures only covered 3 levels?

I miss the old days, when a module would give you an appropriate starting level and it was mostly irrelevant what level you were when it ended. Generally, that would depend on the size of the party ( and the number of survivors). It’s likely true that printing 32 page modules might not meet...

What Does the RPG Hobby Need Now?

Something that will bring back the absolute sense of wonder and amazement that I experienced when I rolled up my Level 1 Human Thief in 1978. Despite his lifespan of about 45 minutes, I understood the infinite possibilities that could be created with pencil, paper, and some stupid-looking dice...

D&D 5E (2014) Feat, Magic Items, or Multiclassing? Which do you choose?

Magic items. I don’t allow multiclassing in my game, so that’s not an issue. I nerf or ban a number of feats and I'm stingy with permanent magic items, but the latter have been a core of D&D since day one.

D&D General Languages suck in D&D.

About 60%. 43% of the world’s population is bilingual, according to the Journal of Neurolinguistics, meaning almost half of all people utilize two languages daily. 40% of the world’s population is monolingual, using just one language. 17% of the world’s population is multilingual, or fluent in...

Must You Tell Your Players What Adventure You Are Running?

Definitely not obligated. I rarely throw out adventure names, rather I ask if they are interested in the specific theme. This is mainly because of my habit of messing about the published material and I wouldn't want the players to believe they are playing an out of the box version.

D&D General Do you track ammunition?

As a player, I always track arrows/bolts/bullets. As a DM, I expect the players to do so, although I don't police it tightly except when they are not going to be in a town for a period of time. But I do remind them before they head out.

    Dragonsfoot forums down?

Steve posted that the board software was being updated a couple of days ago. Once that happened I could not log on, although I could view the boards He then said there was an issue with logging on for most/all users, and he would be trying implement a fix over the weekend.

D&D General If we were re-designing the Tiny Hut-esc 'instant shelter' spells what would we change?

My house rule for Tiny Hut is to have it conjure an actual tiny hut: It appears to be a normal log cabin, (15’ x 15’ x 10’ walls) with a peaked roof, a single door, and shutters on every wall. The doors and shutters are equipped with metal bars, but no other locks. The hut is free of any...
