No, I'm not using that book.

Yes, I am aware of the casting rules between arcance and divine. That is one thing that I do not like about most fantasy-based divine magic systems. Every cleric of every god has access to the same spells at the same time. That just makes no sense. Well, except for evil clerics. They INFLICT...

No, I'm not using that book.

I think that is perfectlyt acceptable. You don't play cookie cutter spell-casters. If every spell-caster in the game-world knew Fireball, I'm certain it would much more smoky and charred than it is now. The same goes for Revivify. Sure it seems to be a great spell, however, if every cleric could...

No, I'm not using that book.

Perhaps another alternative is for you to send your GM an email. Let him know that if there are any other spells that your characters deity wishes to bestow, that you would be more than willing to roleplay the new spells. Just have him email you the complete writeups of each spell, as its...

    Hackmaster -- Recommend an adventure

Kenzerco has a few freebies online. There is White Palette, Ivory Horns (free)- You are asked by a painter to procure a delayed shipment of lead, which seems to have been ambushed a few days ago. This adventure is a precursor to the setting book: Frandor's Keep ($25, $15-PDF). There is also...

Armor Class vs. Damage Reduction - Your preference

I think DR works very well with HackMaster. Certain weapons have a DR bypass vs heavy armor OR monster over DR+5. For example, a flail or warhammer ignores 1 DR and a military pick or mace ignores 2. Also, in regards to HP, you only gain a new hit-die every odd level. Every even level, you...

Armor Class vs. Damage Reduction - Your preference

I started out, like many players, with ADnD2e. I then moved on to 3e. The D&D franchise seems to cater towards the AC. Heavier armor and Shields add to your target Armor number, making you harder to hit. It can be argued that the bonuses for armor and shileds should be interpreted NOT that you...

    Pathfinder 1E Non-D&D /Pathfinder RPGs

HackMaster (New edition) ..........Strengths 1) Old School Foundation - Stats are straight 3d6, down the line. Dropping the average back down to 10-11 instead of 13-15. Nine-grid alignment, although the definitions have been reworked for more accurate portrayal. There is no dump stat. Every...

    Printable 24x36 and 36x48 battlegrids

I neglected to mentions. For a few bucks more, you can have them laminated, Simply draw and wipe clean for the next game. Much cheaper than buying vinyl mats!

    Printable 24x36 and 36x48 battlegrids

Here are a couple items that I created a couple years ago. These are 24x36 and 36x48 grids with 1" squares and further subdivided into 25 subsquares. Meaning that if you chose each 1" square to be 5ft, the smaller grids would equal 1ft. Or 10ft squares would give you a 2ft subsquare. These...

    Megadungeon mapping at the tabletop

Alternatively, you can take one of these attached files to any architect/blueprint print shop and have them print out sheets on a 36" or 48" roll printer. I created these when I worked as a draftsman and printed out several for my campaign. These are 24x36 and 36x48 grids with 1" squares and...

    Player not using sheets.

Have the GM give a time limit. GM - "OK, he casts a fireball. What is your REFLEX save?" Dunce - "Um.. hrmm..*checks the sheet.. turns it over..* GM - (after 10 seconds) "BOOM! You were standing around just waiting for the fireball. You are thrown back 20 ft and take full damage from the blast"

    Awesome Appreciation Feedback

Sounds like someone is starting off on the right foot when it comes to buttering up the DM. I would watch my back if I were you. Keep an eye on him. He might have a fiendish trick up his sleeve.

D&D 5E Help me write up a dice system for spells

One thing you can do, for starters, is figure up what a 10th level caster would be. Have him cast a Fireball as powerful as he can. Compare that to a 3/4/5e fireball. If he can end up firing more fireballs or deal more damage, you might have some tweaking.

    Why is realism "lame"?

And it also depends on what it is you mean when you say "realism". That word means different things to different people. It could be: HP vs Wounds Healing times AC vs DR (this is a huge one) Attacks per round Rounds vs Seconds Does weapon reach factor into who hits first? What about facing...
