    Moderator Elections

I've been part of a few democratic online communities over the years. They all were (or are) crap at the end of the day. Tyranny of the majority drowned out any value that could be found there. An easy way to validate this is to just visit a community that lacks moderation. The majority...

Missoula Mad Dies Breaking into Hobby Store

Just a thought... the cited article calls the store a "craft and hobby store" which usually indicates something like a Micahels. Yarn, fabric, paint, etc. I haven't ever seen D&D in a 'craft store' myself. ;) Re: Women in uniform. There is nothing finer than a woman in military shape. 31 isn't...

Where's a good place to go to talk about video games?

Try finding some video game blogs. I find they tend to be more interesting than forums, and they aren't so insular or focused on one niche. Few forums do a good job of covering the full spectrum of video games out there (due to being overly fond of one platform or another, etc.).

San Diego -- Help Me Find the FLGS's?

Actually, I think that RPG's in general thrive when there are strong communities built up around FLGS's... How many people these days just buy D&D and teach themselves? Compare that to the number of people who have someone introduce them to it and bring them in? Large local communities of...

San Diego -- Help Me Find the FLGS's?

Thanks for the info Cake. I don't like buying RPG's from internet providers because I believe that they need a strong local community to thrive. I appreciate you taking the time to share both stores with me. I'll check them both out and probably shop both in the future. :)

San Diego -- Help Me Find the FLGS's?

Just moved to San Diego for a new job. I'm happy to be here and excited about living on the West Coast again, but need to hit the reset button on my gaming life. I'm in the 'North County' area if I understand what I've been told correctly (Near Mira Mesa and Poway). Can anyone lend tips about...

    Anthropomorphic Animals in Greyhawk

You may find this information about the Manse of the Cat Lord useful. It refers to anthropomorphic cat people from the 'Gord of Greyhawk' series. This sets a clear precedent for anthropomorphic beings in Greyhawk without being a game breaker. Col. Playdough himself had them in his own novels...

In case of emergency (question to parents)

The most important thing, is to make plans that are going to hold up within your states legal system -- involve a lawyer such as Dannyalcatraz to ensure that the plans will hold up. My wife and I just did this for our kids. We have wills that state who we intend to have guardianship should we...

The Elfish Gene - Another attack on gamers

On the topic of aging gamers and the need for replacements to fill out the ranks... I'd like to remind everyone that you don't die when you turn 40! I'm an original 80's gamer, started with the red box. I am 35 years old. Statistics says I've got another 35 or so years of natural life ahead of...

desperate, what should I do for my husband

crystal -- what did you settle on? More than one good idea came through in this thread, I'm curious if you've made a choice.

    Dragon Virgin Birth

I'll bite. It's an interesting idea. The key is to take this neat quirk of science and turn it into something of a plot. No plot = the 'big deal' that others are giving as replies right now. Let's say she was exiled by the other dragons for refusing to mate with the king. Stick with science and...

The Elfish Gene - Another attack on gamers

Am I the only person who didn't "hide his gaming hobby" while in school in the 80's? Actually, I know I'm not. There were more than two dozen of us who gamed and talked gaming at school, in public, and didn't get the crap kicked out of us. Then again, some of us were on the football team and...

    Chakken's Dilemma

Most excellent news. I hope that you guys are able to move smoothly and that your new life in the Midwest can be everything you'd hope for. Stay positive, don't forget that they have help managing anger in the Midwest if you need it after the move, and bring a snow shovel! ;P

Need help dealing with a melee character in a predominately ranged combat setting...

Kill his character(s). Repeatedly. Who would have thought that this advice would prove useful twice in a single hour? :) Seriously though, you've done your part and talked about the setting to the guy. He knows what he's in for and is willing to take the punishment. Deal it to him. If he...

What Is A Good D&D Mini Set To Start On?

OK so I grabbed a starter box and two boosters when these came out for my kid to tinker with, and then used them in my games for fun as well. Turns out I have a few $30+ value figures according to Auggie's prices. What are my actual odds of turning in something like the shambling mound for an...
