    How often do you play?

Weekly online game for 2.5 hrs, rotating GM using Roll20 and Teams. 2-3 weekends per year face-to-face with the same group. Playing D&D4e, Runequest 3e, and Judge Dredd (Mongoose Traveller 1e). GMing Call of Cthulhu and Mongoose Traveller 2e.

What’s good about Call of Cthulhu 7th Ed? (and what’s not)

I like the basic system, Basic Roleplaying, and I like the things they added or changed in 7th edition. Basic Roleplaying has to be one of the simplest yet flexible core mechanics in RPGs with a unified and easy to understand percentile system. I also like the content of the adventures. They...

Here Are 2025's Most Anticipated TTRPGs... As Voted By You!

First time since 2020 when there's nothing of interest to me in the top 10. Probably a good thing for my wallet.

ChatGPT writes ”Missed Opportunities in Generic Tabletop RPG Campaign Settings”

I copied your post back into ChatGPT and asked it for the same analysis on Basic Roleplaying. Here is is what it said: Certainly! The Basic Roleplaying (BRP) system by Chaosium is an iconic generic RPG engine, but like other generic systems, its settings sometimes struggle to fully capitalize...

"Homage to Catalonia" for the Mysteries & Misfortunes RPG

Has anyone played the introductory scenario "Homage to Catalonia" for the Mysteries & Misfortunes RPG? How did it go for you and your players?

    OSR Best introductory BX/OSR scenarios

I collated the responses to two separate questions about the best BX/OSR scenario for new players and DMs the questions was asked in 5 different threads/groups across three forums (two Facebook BX and OSE groups, two Reddit BX and OSR groups, and an BX/OSR Forum on EN World). The question was...

OSR What's the best introductory BX/OSR scenario for new players and DMs?

Assume that the rules being used are OSE Advanced Fantasy, so AD&D1e or OSRIC scenarios might be ok too. But the important thing is that both players and DM are new.

Who are your favorite TTRPG reviewers?

Bryce Lynch from Tenfootpole because his review standards, particularly in relation to usability at the table accord with my own. Unfortunately he only tends to reviews OSR adventures. Seth Skorkowsy because he only reviews stuff he's played. Jeff McAleer from the Gaming Gang because his...

How Do You Decide What RPGs to Buy?

It is the 2018 edition, and I agree the layout in not 100% bad but things like the information on NPCs being split across a minimum of 3 locations is just perverse, and the block text mixing up the immediately apparent, the information that is conditional, and the information for the Referee...

How Do You Decide What RPGs to Buy?

Appears to be. My experience too. I've had to cut, paste and heavily edit everything they do to make it usable for me at the table. I am currently running Masks of Nyarlathotep and the block texts and organisation of material is abysmal (the substance of the campaign, however, is excellent).

How Do You Decide What RPGs to Buy?

I feel your pain. I am similarly frustrated by reviews that don't cover these basic issues. The only one that I'm aware of is Bryce Lynch (tenfootpole.org) but he only reviews OSR adventures (and the occasional D&D 5E). Moreover, OSR is seeminglybthe only genre that pays attention to things like...
