It's a single character, Themberchaud, and he is magnificent. He was a cameo in the movie from the books, so je is not going anywhere.

The Background does not offer a bonus to Wisdom.

I think the Background is meant for Clerics. Unfortunately this is a case where the lore and mechanics don't mix well.
