Yea you’re right! I wasn’t thinking about anything other than getting the ASI on time and that would most likely be detrimental. I do definitely want the Monk’s Unarmored Defense asap. I think I’ll scroll back up and look at your suggested level progressions.

I like your take on this character level progression. However I was thinking about starting Monk 1 because I figured since I'm going after the Evasion ability later on, I'd like to be proficient in DEX saves (since everything seems to be DEX based whatevers in 5e). I'm only going to Monk 8...
