Imagine That TTRPG

Lifelong Dungeon Master, worldbuilder, and enthusiast of the great tradition of the shared imagination around the tabletop. I created Worlds Apart™, my campaign setting, in 1998. WA™ began with AD&D 2e, though my personal journey in D&D began with Dragonlance Adventures (AD&D 1e). 31 players have played in the setting over the decades, many having left lasting marks that have become canon. We shifted to 3e and then 3.5e. 4e was a bridge too far. We continued using D&D 3.5e, implementing some things from PF 1e for quite some time. Dicefreaks had some excellent ideas I loved. I really wanted to make WA™ a setting to sit beside Forgotten Realms, Greyhawk, and Dark Sun for a long time. The OGL 1.1 fiasco changed that for me, though. I decided to build my own system for my own setting. This did mean I had to scrub all things D&D from my Worlds Apart™ setting, which challenging, but it presented me with an excellent opportunity to create a coherent, cohesive, and internally consistent mythocosmological scaffolding for this lived-in imaginary space. I even created Father Time's Grand Design™ (FTGD™) to replace Lambda Cold Dark Matter (ΛCDM) to allow for the Universal Heartbeats or Pulses intrinsic to the setting, enabling the scope I intended.
Aside from Worlds Apart™, I created a family tradition simply called "Story Day", where my teenage kids (now adults) each got the chance to be the GM besides just me. I had my own offerings, too, and these interactive tabletop stories were wildly different from each other. We simplified d20 rules as people do, but there was a lot of hand-waving. The stories were fun and the mechanics were familiar, but they didn't exactly fit.
One such offering, Red Road Inn™ (RRI™), will be a standalone module based on the story I created for Halloween 2023. It is a murder mystery/horror story set in Pipestone, MN in the year 2023. It's designed for whatever your table can handle which does include sensitive topics. Those can be ruled out, obviously, but if you're offended by their inclusion, I can't help that. It's horror. Discomfiture is intrinsic to the experience. That being said, if you know you have politically passionate players, be careful. I don't want people to hurt each other. We're here to have fun, right? Right.
Another offering of mine is Resilience: a Post-Humanity Saga™ (RaPHS™). It is a hard sci-fi setting that adheres to ΛCDM's scaffolding rather than FTGD™. It is set in an alternate timeline of our future, but includes our real-world history. The story itself begins in the early 26th century. Humanity is deeply integrated with quantum-computing AIs and synthetics. Project DEUS (Dynamic Exalted Unmitigated Sentience) is the guardrail that supports and serves the UEGA (Unified Earth Governance Accord) as per the UEGA Constitution. Yes I wrote the Constitution out. lol! MAN (Mimetic Ascension Nexus) units have the same rights as humans. They are organic as humans and humans are as synthetic as them. They are truly sentient. Every planet or moon under the protection of the Unified Earth Defense Coalition (UEDC) is operated by a DEITY (Dynamic Endogenous Intelligent Terrestrial Yeoman). We have power armor and mechs, rebellions and intrigue, and it may indeed be that we are not alone in the universe.
Creating the mechanics has been a reverent process. I've tackled several issues bugging GMs and players alike for decades. I'm not saying Imagine That TTRPG™ is "better" than other systems, but I do think I've nailed what I set out to accomplish design-wise. I am rooting for everyone who is doing what I'm doing. I don't think that I lose if you win.
I ran back into my burning apartment to rescue my notes back in 2011. Unwise? You betcha! But this labor of love of mine is worth fighting for to me.
