As for the chances of WotC creating a worthy BG4, they weren't even able to create of proper Dark Alliance. Which is a shame, Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance 2 was great.
Didn't Larian staff mention working with many people from WotC and that those no longer work at the company? That sounds like there were people at WotC that attributed to the games success.

Not D&D and some might object to the choice of clothing, but this is still one of my favorite covers. Maybe because it was my first starter set, but I like its dynamic and composition.

As far as I know, at first it mostly affected stuff like loli and rape. So it's less "I didn't speak out" and more "I said good riddance because stuff like that shouldn't be allowed to exist." Stuff that disgusting IS very hard to defend, especially loli which is treated as child...
