What Does the RPG Hobby Need Now?

I have been looking into play-by-post because it doesn't require a regular schedule or voice connection, but the games I see being run lean heavily towards a literary style of play, perhaps not surprising given the medium, but it is not really what I enjoy. The exception I have found so far are...

What Does the RPG Hobby Need Now?

More tools for playing without a GM, co-operative or solo modes, would be welcome. I don't have much experience with current games yet, but from what I have looked at in Pathfinder 2e for example, it seems like the elaborate combat system is a central part of the game and could be fun to play...

    D&D 2E 2E Thief Rewrite

For a style of play where the party tries to avoid combat whenever possible (perhaps because most XP comes from recovering loot rather than killing monsters, and/or combat comes with a significant risk of death), the stealthy Thief or Fighter/Thief can be very powerful even without heavy armour...

How can the tabletop gaming industry survive without China?

I think some companies could do a lot more to improve their routes to market to avoid the need for products made mainly in China from passing through the US on their way to the final customer. I don't live in the US but there are games I would like to buy now which can only be ordered from a US...

How do you choose a class?

For classed games like D&D I roll ability scores in order then choose a class that makes good use of those abilities, also considering what will work with the rest of the party. The only classless games I play regularly are all based on the Traveller character generation system, for those I...

    Psionics--the Poll!

I like the idea of psionics, and it has worked fairly well for me in Traveller games, but not so well in D&D.

D&D General Normal Distribution Ability Scores

A method I like has a push-your-luck aspect to it: Roll 3d6 for each ability in order. I may choose either to play with what I rolled, or discard all six rolls and try again, for a maximum of six attempts. Generally after two or three attempts I will have the scores to make a good enough...

    D&D 1E Edition Experience: Did/Do you Play 1E AD&D? How Was/Is It?

I think AD&D 1e is still my favourite version of the game. There are things I don't like about it, but they tend to be things that are present in all versions, such as the Tolkien-derived PC races, the linear distributions that come from single D20 rolls, the steepness of the levelling up curve.
