Jenck

I played AD&D back in the late 1970s. Stopped playing in the mid 1980s and missed 2e, 3e, 3.5e.

I got interested again in 2013 and tried 4e but didn't like the emphasis on battle tactics. But then I heard about D&D Next/5e and how it was going to go back to old school style D&D.

So I participated in the playtest and really like it. It feels much more like the AD&D I remember from the late 1970s/early 1980s.

I have played only a couple of sessions of D&D Encounters at Toys N' Things in Danvers, MA. I played one late session of the "Scourge of the Sword Coast" season and the intro/first session of "Dead in Thay."

I have also been DM-ing a home game of "Keep on the Shadowfell" which was converted to D&D Next rules (by someone else). I DM for my 12 and 16 year old, trying out the D&D Next playtest rules. We play very infrequently and have been taking a long time to get through the adventure.
