    Essentials more suitable for children?

    No. Nothing in the art or layout makes this more or less appealing to my kids, who (at 6 and 10) don't actually see anything useful in new versions of the classes. My 10 year old likes the Compendium though. I wish Wizards would do a boxed set (or something) based on their Practical series...

    Ecology of The Scarecrow

    Scarecrows have long been a staple of horror. M.R. James used one for his story Rats, and ever since its been used again and again. While not as prevalent as some ghost story tropes in modern horror they continue to pop up again and again and their presence in D&D fills me with glee.
