We All Won – The OGL Three Years Later

I think your whole post is a fair, thoughtful and optimistic take. That’s what I enjoy about your perspective. Looking forward to the show, Mike.

D&D General WotC Continues D&D's Advance To Digital First Brand

The anology is a good one, but not for the reasons you use it. Balls that used inflated bladders versus ones that use a synthetic material actually behave differently. As such, this leads to qualitative differences in how the game is played when it shifts from bladder to rubber. Modern football...

D&D General WotC Continues D&D's Advance To Digital First Brand

I don’t know there are any physical resources that are no longer available that require online or digital play. I was more expressing a concern that things do move this way, that’s all. Just a quick comment re the merits of online and digital tools vs in person and analogue. I’m really not...

D&D General WotC Continues D&D's Advance To Digital First Brand

I agree with you. The other thing I’d add about digital tools is that their presence begins to influence the experience of playing. If everyone is looking at their laptop it significantly reduces the level of face to face interaction. I remember when I saw the promos for sigil and feeling...

D&D General WotC Continues D&D's Advance To Digital First Brand

I did say people should play the way they want. It’s good there are options that work for all. My concern is that a tool that was originally used to aid playing eventually becomes a tool that is required to play. At that point, people aren’t free to play without them. I think you’re...

D&D General WotC Continues D&D's Advance To Digital First Brand

I’d be concerned that over time this changes the game in ways that make it less viable to play without digital tools. So that rather than digital tools supplementing a primarily analogue experience (which I’m fine with) they begin to become part of the core experience itself. Sounds like this...

D&D General WotC Continues D&D's Advance To Digital First Brand

Is “digital first” just marketing speak? I’d be concerned if they de-incentivise in person, non-digital play. I really liked all the components, maps and extras that came with the hero’s of the borderlands set. And I’m definitely a physical first customer. So I’m sad if they do less of this.

WotC Shawn Merwin joins Wizards as contract game designer

Great news. Shawn seems like a wise and grounded guy. Glad he’s on the team. I guess it’ll be awhile before the new team actually produces something, perhaps there’s stuff in the pipeline, but I’m assuming it’ll be 12-18months before we see a new adventure path or a creation that is solely of...

Crows, James Introcasos MCDM Dungeon Crawler RPG

Interesting! I really liked what they did with Draw Steel and the community engagement. I say that even though on reflection, I think the game is probably not for me. My impression, which may be wrong, is that it’s very tactical almost skirmish war game-like. But I am enjoying their success and...

James Haeck Joins Wizards of the Coast as Senior D&D Designer

I think 1 of 15 designers tells you part of the problem with DIA right there! I found the experience, at least as a player, quite disjointed and so wasn’t surprised when I later found out that Baldurs Gate section (which I personally preferred!) was bolted on later in the design process. Overall...

James Haeck Joins Wizards of the Coast as Senior D&D Designer

It seems like there’s a lot of new faces and I’m really excited to see what they all do, including Haeck. I do worry about Hasbro /Wotc hobbling their creativity. Also, I suspect it’ll take time for new products from this team to reach the market. But let’s wait and see, best of luck to them all.

Tell me about Star Wars: Edge of the Empire

Thanks. Yeah when I last looked the eBay prices were extortionate, so I thought I’d pass. I do wonder if the narrative nature might be tricky to DM, for me anyways, as I’m not particularly good at improv in the moment. Be curious to hear people’s experience of that.

Tell me about Star Wars: Edge of the Empire

I’m actually keen to try this out also. It’s been out of stock for so long, but seems to be more available again for some reason. Are any of the published adventures or sourcebooks worth it? Thanks.
