I made a Windows Live Skydrive ID, but the link still didn't work. I tried both Firefox and IE, with the same result. If you can access it through that link, perhaps it is a permissions issue where you have permissions set so that you are the only one that can currently access it.
I tried the link, but I got the message:
"That item seems to be missing
Someone may have deleted or moved the item, or you may not have permission to view it. If you have questions about this item, contact the person who created it."
Hey RC,
I have been looking for a good OS/NS D&D hybrid, and yours seems very interesting, and maybe something that I would consider running.
There was a thread on dragonsroot in June 2009 where you mentioned a Monstrous Preview which would be posted as a PDF with a link within 72 hours on...
In the 4E DMG, I can't figure out how much XP you are supposed get for defeating an NPC (like a fighter, cleric, etc.).
Anyone know? And a page reference if you have one?
Well, the main point I'm trying to make is:
According to the official definition of CR, if a creature is CR 20, that means that the creature is equivalent in challenge to a party as a level 20 NPC (with 20 levels of PC wealth) would be to the party.
According to your definitions, that...
Hi U_K!
I don't understand how you can say that, "Everybody defines CR the same way." How do you define CR?
The official rules basically define CR as: "this creature would be an equal challenge to a well-balanced party of adventures of level X as an NPC of level X with wealth of a PC of...
Why is that rosy? If it's ECL 55/CR 37, against a level 37 party, it's a tough encounter, not easy.
You said, "If we increase the EL so that the Infernal uses (roughly) 25% of the party's resources, it would be CR 24 (two-thirds of 37)." Did you mean *decrease*? Against an ECL 37/CR 24...
Hi U_K!
Challenging ratings are tough to get right. I hope fourth edition will be superior, but I'm not holding my breath and may very well stick with 3.X. Only time will tell. I'm certainly not going to proceed with the assumption that 4th ed will necessarily fix everything. But hopefully...
I assumed that were quoting this from somewhere, but actually I think this is your extrapolation from the table. Actually, I don't think U_K used the table you gave above, but used a more mathematically correct approach. Another thing is that, U_K rounds EL down, so it is not necessarily easy...
The discrepancies are because 4/3 and 1.5 are actually estimations in both cases. U_K is using CR*2=EL+6. This means that EL+3=CR*(2^.5). In other words, EL+3 is CR times the square root of two, where the square root of 2 is 1.4142, or about 1.4 which is probably close enough. The problem is...
Actually, I think the table is the same as the set up. It looked different when you first pointed it out. But, you said, "ECL is Party Level or CR is 2/3 Party Level = EL +/- 0 = Moderate = 96.8% chance of party victory". So CR is 2/3*av. party level is moderate, that's the same as "Challenge...
True, I did get a little confused (which is part of the problem with v6 :) ) in that the Balor would be a moderate (easy) encounter in v6 to the level 30 party, not tough. But I think that a Balor is not as tough a challenge as a level 30 character with PC wealth would be.
Let me put it...
True, I'm doing it wrong per v6, but right per v5. However, in v6, the CR now means that a party of four adventurers at that level are going to have a tough encounter rather than an easy one (re-definition of CR--in v6 ECL means what CR normally means, and in v6 CR basically means 2/3 of what...
HI U_K,
I'm trying to figure out your "Make Challenge Rating 2/3rds Effective Class Level" solution, but it's not making a lot of sense to me. First, I do think it's based on some false assumptions. I don't think that WOTC makes the assumption that "Challenge Rating parallels Effective Class...
Regarding UK’s “glaring error in my Encounter Level Breakdowns” (UK’s words for it). I did not like Cheiromancer’s insulting attitude toward UK. But I understood why he was upset, and I was similarly upset until I understood the solution to the problem. The reason he was upset is that UK’s...
