Not necessarily, Pathfinder did a remaster of their 2E which had a decent amount of changes, but I don't remember seeing this kind of discourse around that being a new edition and everyone referring to it as a remaster, as Paizo refers to it as well.
The types of changes in the new Player's Handbook seem to equate to the same types of optional changes you saw in Tasha's and Xanathar's, so unless we refer to using those books as an "optional new edition to 2014 DnD" I don't think it's fair to say the 2024 Player's Handbook is a new edition...
I enjoy the actual part of running the game and presenting players with challenges and watching them come up with shenanigans to deal with it. I also like that, as a GM, I don't need to wait for a session to start 'playing' DnD, since I see session prep as part of play, so I get to somewhat play...
I actually do this occasionally when running online games when the game is interacting with systems I'm not familiar with. As an example, I was running a seafaring campaign using the Ghosts of Saltmarsh ship rules that for the life of me I couldn't keep memorized, so I put the important...
I use a screen but replace some of the tables/references with my own by printing my own version out and taping it over the old table that I didn't find useful. It's helpful for rules that I tend to forget. The top of the screen is also useful for putting post-it notes or clothespins with...
You can probably flavor the mind blast to execute your idea of putting images into a victim's mind on a failed save, will give more in-universe context as to why the mind blast had stunned their character.
Yes lmao, it's designed around a certain XP threshold between long rests, which you most certainly can do with 6-8 encounters, but can also do with 2-4. Just because they use 6-8 as an example, which the DMG clearly notes it as an example, doesn't mean that that's the ideal. As you've said...
Even reading the dungeon master's guide it doesn't explicitly say they should be doing 6-8 combat encounters a day. It states that a party can handle 6-8 medium to hard combat encounters, then states that if the combat encounters are easier the amount they can handle goes up, and if the combat...
I agree 100%, but in general it's easier to do with in person groups (for me) to also get a response that I can gauge against how they are reacting in play. It's harder for me to make those judgements, no matter how much feedback I get back, when I never get to see a live reaction to what's...
I do find it's much harder for many people to stay engaged online. I'm actually quite decent at it, luckily since I'm mostly stuck with it at the moment. My main gripe with the social aspect of it, funnily enough, is how hard it is to get a read on other people even with cameras on.
If you're...
For me I still vastly prefer in-person gaming, but I can agree it's a lot harder to get a game going. In the time that I've been trying to get an in-person group, I've GM'd two full campaigns and played in 3, all online. For me, it's significantly more of a hassle to prep a game in a VTT than in...
